Montevideo (Uruguay) In this period of social isolation due to coronavirus, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Immaculate Conception Province of Uruguay (URU) launched proposals and initiatives to continue communicating with students and families, teachers, and other members of the Educating Communities.
Since 2013, work has been carried out in various communities via the Moodle platform, allowing each Center to manage its own virtual classrooms. Today in this health contingency, which caused the closure of the educational centers, the different teams of directors and teachers have set to work to continue their lessons, taking advantage of a resource already known and used by various educators.
First, tutorials and user manuals were sent to each educator, then adaptable proposals were requested to be sent to the different teaching sectors of each educational center.
Creativity, solidarity, the availability of educators and teachers to work from home have been the winning keys to reach all the families and this has allowed us to get close, see each other, listen to each other, interact, and enjoy shared spaces, despite the distances.
This time, the Social networks have been put at the service of life. Technology also favored the good performance of the project, as most of the country has 5G coverage and this has made it possible to send tasks and proposals.
In his homily at St. Martha on 18 March 2020, Pope Francis exhorted us: “Perhaps we cannot get together physically (with each other at the time of the coronavirus) for fear of contagion, but we can awaken in ourselves an attitude of closeness with prayer, with help, there are many ways to be close. And why should we be close to each other? Because our God is close; He wants to accompany us in life. He is the God of closeness. It is for this reason that we are not isolated people but we are close, because the heritage we received from the Lord is closeness, this means a gesture of closeness.”
From this idea of closeness came other initiatives throughout the Province of Uruguay: from the FMA Communities that prepare the Good Mornings and socialize them on the Web, to the Marian hymns played in the family, to the proposals for reflection on these times, to sharing photo galleries or creative activities.
