Rome (Italy). On 14 February 2025, at the end of the audience, Pope Francis was hospitalized at the Polyclinic Agostino Gemelli in Rome “for some necessary diagnostic examinations and to continue in hospital the treatment for bronchitis still ongoing.” As the days went by and the necessary tests, the diagnosis changed, showing the onset of a polymicrobic infection of the respiratory tract that required further pharmacological therapy.
At the Press Conference on 21 February, the doctors, after giving details of the clinical picture, explained that the stay will last for as long as useful, until it is no longer necessary to administer hospital treatments. In the meantime, the Pope maintains the good humor that distinguishes him by continuing, within the limits of his condition, to read, sign documents, and serve the Church.
From all over the world, a wave of affection reached the Holy Father who, as reported in the Communications of the Holy See, “thanks for the closeness he feels at this moment and asks with a grateful heart, that we continue to pray for him.”
The Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, made herself close in her turn, sending to the Pope a Letter on her behalf and that of all the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians:
