Brescia (Italy). The “Path of the Comets” is a path that touches the places of the Saints of the Province of Brescia, in Lombardy. It is a route of about 546 km, divided into 28 stages, which, starting from Corteno Golgi, where Blessed Maria Troncatti was born, crosses the three valleys, the capital city, the Brescia plain, runs through the province of Brescia to reach Limone del Garda, on the shores of Lake Garda, birthplace of Saint Daniel Comboni.

“On the example of great experiences of Pilgrimage, such as the Way of Saint James and the Via Francigena, this proposal for a journey through the land of Brescia has flourished, visiting the places where there are deep traces of women and men who have illuminated our lands with the light of the Gospel of Jesus leaving a trail of charity, justice, peace.”

The idea was born and matured by Fr. Alfredo Scaratti, a priest of the Diocese of Brescia who, inspired by the first pastoral letter of Bishop Mons. Pierantonio Tremolada “The beauty of living – The holiness of faces and the faces of holiness), together with the team of the Association, “Il Cammino delle Comete O.d.V.“, has developed the route, accompanied by a flyer with the stages, indications for hospitality, pilgrim’s credentials, and website to stay up-to-date (www.ilcamminodellecomete.it).

“Holiness is the good face of humanity, its most beautiful and truest side. It is humanity as God has always desired. It is the humanity redeemed in Christ, freed from what offends, saddens, hurts, mortifies, dishonors; from what makes it cruel, vulgar, violent. It is the humanity that we would always like to meet, that does not frighten us, that, on the contrary, rejoices us, amazes us, moves us, attracts us, conquers us” (Msgr. Pierantonio Tremolada).

The objectives of this path – as explained in the site – range on various levels: to deepen the knowledge of the Brescia saints, offer a personal search of life, experience a time of spirituality, meet new people, communities, life experiences, live immersed in nature, know or rediscover this part of the territory, maintain and develop physical, psychological and relational abilities.

The website contains a page containing brief biographies of the 28 Saints, including, in addition to Sister Troncatti, Saint Angela Merici, Saint Paul VI, and the Servant of God Father Silvio Galli, Salesian of Don Bosco (1927-2012).

At the beginning of the Triennial in preparation for the 150th anniversary of the first missionary expedition of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (14 November 1877) and awaiting the canonization of a great missionary like Sister Maria Troncatti, these initiatives encourage to discover, with renewed impetus, the treasures of Graces with which the Lord enriches the Church and humanity.

“Let us set out like the luminous trails of the comets!” is Fr. Alfredo’s wish.
