San José (Costa Rica). On 12 September 2020, at Casa Maria Ausiliatrice – “Sister Maria Romero Social Works” in San José, in the Province of Our Lady of the Angels of Central-South America (CAR), the blessing of the renovated Mausoleum of Blessed Maria Romero Meneses took place.
The celebratory moment was presided over by the Archbishop of San José, Msgr. José Rafael Quirós, together with two Councilors of the Historical Theological Center Sister Maria Romero, Fr. Oscar Eduardo Brenes, and Fr. Cristian Alberto Bermúdez. The Provincial, Sr. Ena Veralís Bolaños, was present. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, participation was limited to about fifty people including FMA from different communities of Costa Rica, benefactors, and representatives of association groups.
The remains of Sister Maria Romero since 9 November 1991, rested in the garden of the House which witnessed her life of prayer and her works of charity for the poorest. On 24 May 2003, following her beatification (14 April 2002), the first restructuring of the Mausoleum was inaugurated.
The great devotion to Blessed Maria Romero, with the influx of numerous pilgrims, led to a new renovation project, with the official start of the work on 12 February 2020, supported and implemented by the Association of Friends of Sister Maria Romero (ASORMARI). The project starts from the idea of developing a space characterized by the austerity and essentiality typical of Sister Maria, which would give rise to an atmosphere of peace to encourage prayer and the encounter with the Blessed.
La Croce sullo sfondo, che si estende fino alla fine del pavimento, ricorda la Fonte Viva da cui provengono tutte le grazie e le benedizioni per intercessione della Beata Maria Romero. Dieci colonne sostengono l’edificio e da lì sgorga l’acqua della Vergine, che cade nei canali d’acqua che circondano il Mausoleo, in modo che il pellegrino possa prenderla e lasciare che Maria trasformi l’acqua nel vino che sostiene e porta alla guarigione.
La Madre Generale delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, suor Yvonne Reungoat, si è resa presente con un messaggio:
“Mi sento profondamente unita a voi in questo momento molto bello della benedizione del mausoleo di suor Maria Romero. Avete scelto un giorno molto significativo che ci ricorda il nome dolcissimo di Maria. Lei renda feconda di tanto bene questa vostra iniziativa e vi aiuti a scegliere e a dare il meglio di voi stesse ai piccoli, ai poveri, a chi è nella sofferenza come è vissuta questa santa e grande Figlia di Maria Ausiliatrice”.
Dopo questa ristrutturazione, che incoraggia i fedeli a transitare in preghiera presso le spoglie della Beata chiedendo grazie per sua intercessione, si attende il passo definitivo della Canonizzazione di suor Maria Romero.
