Seoul (Korea). On 5 August 2022, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Foundation of the Institute, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Morning Star Province (KOR), with a group of young people and Salesians of Don Bosco, staged the musical “Maìn – The house of happiness”.
All the FMA of the Communities of the Province, with the Provincial, Sr. Cecilia Kim, the Educating Communities, lay people, Animators, Past pupils, members of ADMA, and Salesian Cooperators gathered at the Provincial House of Seoul for the solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Archbishop of Seoul, Msgr. Peter Chung Soon-taek, which was followed by the musical.
27 FMAs participated in the preparation of the musical, together with young people and SDBs who worked together for a year, in presence and online, dealing with all aspects: from the writing of the text, to the script, to the direction, to the composition of the music and songs, costumes and props, the setting up of the stage.
The Communications Coordinator of the Province, Sr. Giovanna Bosco, said, “It was a miracle to see so many young people dedicating their time and talents to God.” And she underlined, “God, who followed us step by step, is the real protagonist who guided this representation”.
The musical focuses on the maternal heart of Mother Mazzarello and on the accompaniment of young people, on the spirituality that led to the birth of the Congregation and that the FMA continue to live and carry on today. Another FMA involved in the show, thinking about the situation of suffering of so many young people, expressed herself as follows, “During the making of the musical, we were able to reflect together on how Mother Mazzarello would be today”.
Sr. Caterina, who played the role of Maria Mazzarello, said, “Maìn lived an extraordinary life, sanctifying it in daily life. My desire is that young people will feel close to the ‘next door Saints'”.
In addition to the musical, the KOR Province over the three years prepared for the 150th anniversary of the FMA Institute with initiatives and events that have borne much fruit: the care of the time of community reading with sharing texts from the sources on the origins of the Institute and on the spirit of Mornese and the entrustment to Mary; an introduction to the moment of the Goodnight every 5th of the month; the reading and deepening of an article of the Constitutions each day; a formation seminar for all the Educating Communities; the launch of the Commission for Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) in the Province; a provincial solidarity fund for disadvantaged young people.
