Brazil. Rede Salesiana Brasil (RSB) – the Salesian Network which includes Schools, Universities, Pastoral Care, Social Works, and Communication of the Provinces of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and the Salesians of Don Bosco in Brazil makes available the e-book “Educomunicação na Perspectiva do Pacto Educativo Global” (Educommunication in the perspective of the Global Educational Pact) in five languages: Portuguese, Italian, English, French, Spanish.

Written by Sr. Helena Corazza, Daughter of St. Paul and published by RSB in 2021, the document was created with the aim of helping Educating Communities to deepen the proposal of the Global Educational Pact, in the light of Educommunication theory and practice, which allows to think of and articulate actions in view of social transformation.

The term Educommunication is thus defined by Prof. Ismar de Oliveira Soares:

“Educommunication is the set of policies and actions inherent in the planning, implementation, and verification of processes and products intended to create and strengthen communication ecosystems in ‘presence’ or ‘virtual’ educational environments. In reality, Educommunication is characterized by the permanent search for conceptual and practical answers to the complex questions present in the living conditions of contemporary society. […] Educommunication practices try to make their actions converge towards a single, great objective: to broaden the communicative coefficient of human actions.”

Mother Antonia Colombo, speaking of Educommunication to the new Provincials in 2004, stated:

“Educommunication is for us a privileged field in which to invest resources. In fact, if education wants to be vital, today it must face the challenges of the communication era. An open system of communication, Educommunication leverages the vast network of relationships that configure environmental pedagogy (real and virtual). It therefore presents itself as a way to actualize the Preventive System. Educommunication strengthens students’ awareness of being citizens of a global society, develops in them the ability to orient themselves, dialogue, produce knowledge, convey ethics and a lifestyle, together with new ways of thinking, feeling, and acting with a view to building a democratic coexistence.”

The RSB document is proposed as a contribution to advance in reflection and practice, in harmony with the Global Educational Pact proposed by Pope Francis:

“From Educommunication to the Global Educational Pact and in the dialogue between the two, we glimpse a dream/proposal of an integral and integrative human being, who lives in the Common Home in dialogue with others, in the project of a fraternal, inclusive, supportive society, that integrate differences in favor of a global educational project as a goal and path towards a possible peace, in favor of common and urgent causes,” is read in the Introduction.

Bearing in mind the importance of the theme, a group of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians has joined forces to translate the e-book into four other languages, so that it can be a shared tool at the level of the FMA Institute and for all members of the Family Salesian and the people who work in the Educating Communities. The translation into English is by Sr. Rachele Crotti, into Spanish by Sr. Maria Baffundo, into Italian by Sr. Fernanda Passos and into French by Sr. Charlotte Bizige. In addition to this group, other FMA of the Community of Mary Help of Christians of the Generalate (RCG) of Rome collaborated in the revision of the publications.
