Naples (Italy). On 28 February 2021, the first online formation meeting for Digital Animators took place, organized by the Communication Commission of the Southern Province of Our Lady of Good Counsel (IMR) and aimed at young people from the local communities of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.

The objective of the formative itinerary is to involve the young people closest to the new languages in the animation and awareness of communication in Salesian oratories, schools, and educational environments. The next step consists in assuming the task of referents and intermediaries in sharing initiatives, events, and news with the FMA Provincial Commission.

The first meeting was attended by 30 young people with skills in the field of communication, but above all with the desire to learn, to get involved, to animate, and to encourage the growth of educational environments in relationships and in the exchange of information.

The performance on an online platform  allowed the use of interactive methods through sites and dynamics that facilitated the game and sharing of knowledge, experiences, ideas. The different moments were marked by 5 verbs: know each other, get involved, share, learn together, and plan. The verb to plan was the concrete starting point for outlining together, FMA and young people, some passages of the formative journey, which includes other meetings, online and possibly face to face, that will range from the acquisition of technical skills to be at the service of their area, formation in a conscious use of social media that has the good of children and young people at heart.

The participants, in fact, expressed the need to form themselves on issues related to education and evangelization through social media, to be sprouts of change in the realities in which they live, putting their passions and skills into play.

“Any instrument proves useful and valuable only to the extent that it motivates us to go out and see things that otherwise we would not know about, to post on the internet news that would not be available elsewhere, to allow for encounters that otherwise would never happen.”

(Pope Francis, Message for the 55th  World Day of  Social Communications )
