Fuertaventura (Spain) On 10 October 2019, the Main Canaria Foundation gave birth to Mary Help of Christians House for young people over 18 at Porto del Rosario, Fuertaventura, opening the doors to the first four inhabitants, three North Africans and one from Guinea.

This regards the first protected apartment of Fuerteventura for young people coming from juvenile centers or other social service institutions and have just come of age.  Now six young people live there and it is able to house up to eight.

The aim of this house it that of providing the young immigrants with the necessary documentation to integrate themselves as citizens and adequate formation to reach autonomy. The length of permanence depends on the situations in which each one is, above all regarding documents.

To reach these objectives, they can count on the support of an educator and of Virgin of the Pines FMA Community of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria (SPA) whose Animator, Sr. Ana María Cabrera, is the coordinator of Main Foundation, as well as on Mary Help of Christians Community of Tuineje (Fuerteventura), and on the support of the parish priest of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fuertaventura, since the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians are engaged in the parish in the dimension of the ‘Church that welcomes and heals.’

Life in of Mary Help of Christians House takes place simply, as in a family. The young people are responsible for the care of the house, cleaning, cooking. Moments of encounter and living together are favored and accompaniment and personal dialogue with each one is provided.

The FMA in the Canary Islands carry on three other houses of this type – Magone I, Magone II, and Sister Eusebia – in the joy of being able to accompany children and young people in their growth, to see them ‘leave the house’ responsible and capable of keeping a job with professionalism.
