Nizza Monferrato (Italy) On January 19, Sr. Amalia Savio of Mother Mazzarello Community of Nizza Monferrato (AT) reached one hundred years old.

The festivities began in the afternoon in Our Lady of Grace Sanctuary, festively decorated for the occasion, where Sister Amalia was welcomed by her community and by the Animator, Sister Maria Massucco, who invited the participants to offer the Eucharist in immense gratitude to the Lord for the life of Sister Amalia.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Cathedral Chapter Canon of Acqui Terme (AL), Fr. Mario Bogliolo,  concelebrated by the parish priest, Msgr. Paolino Siri, and by the Community Chaplain, Fr. Vittorio Bazzoni, with the participation of the Deacon Sergio, cousin of Sr. Amalia. The hymns were animated by ‘Don Bosco Choral Group’, directed by Luca Cavallo and the organist, Davide Borrino.

At the end there were some presentations: the affectionate greeting from the Provincial, Sister Elide Degiovanni, who stressed that “The glory of God is the human person fully alive” (St. Irenaeus). Then there was the greeting from the civil authorities, all former pupils of the FMA School of Nizza Monferrato: the Councilor Ausilia Quaglia, the Provincial Councilor Marco Lovisolo, the Mayor Simone Nosenzo, who gave her the parchment with brief notes on her life totally given to God and neighbor.

Following there were refreshments and the cutting of the cake by Sr. Amalia and the toast. Numerous were the participants in the celebration, including relatives and alumni, grateful to Sister Amalia for having accompanied and supported them in difficult moments with the strength of her prayer and a good word. Many details were also remembered about her dedication to young people, in particular her love for the oratory. An example: in Bra (CN), since she could not have another room, she transformed the laundry room of the Institute into an improvised theater to the delight of the oratorians.
