Latina (Italy) To involve the children and young people during this Covid-19 pandemic period, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of St. Mark Community of Latina, of the Roman Province St. John Bosco (IRO), together with the Salesians of Don Bosco with whom they collaborate in St. Mark oratory of Latina, proposed the “2020 Summer Camp” under the sign of the Care of Creation.

“Up for earth”    is the resource that accompanies the journey of five weeks, with children and young people of five different age groups. On Monday the question is asked: Can we change? At the end of the week, after carrying out activities and games, reflecting on how to be custodians of Creation, the question turns into the affirmation: Change is possible!

Every day, starting from the morning prayer, a star that is the figure of a Saint, illumines the path and accompanies the participants in living the day of Summer Camp well. On Friday there is no star to propose, because everyone is called to be a ‘star’ for the others, to be “santo #lìdovesei”, as indicated in the Salesian Pastoral Proposal 2019-2020 for Italy, taken from Strenna 2019 that the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, addressed to the Salesian Family, “That my joy may be in you (Jn 15; 11).  Holiness for you too”.

The weekly itinerary ends on Saturday evening with Holy Mass in the courtyard, dinner with the families, and awarding the winning team.

The FMA of Latina underline the positivity of this summer formula: “A different experience this year, but the focus was more on quality than quantity. A choice “forced” by anti-Covid regulations, but which made us reflect: sometimes large numbers make noise, make us feel stronger, but a more personalized relationship with children is certainly more constructive and effective”.
