Nairobi (Kenya). The Provincial Development Office (PDO) of Our Lady of Hope Province of Central Africa (AFE), with the support of Vides International and the sponsorship of organizations Porticus and Misean Cara, organized a two-week training seminar on safeguarding and protecting minors in Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The meetings included the participation of two people – a Daughter of Mary Help of Christians and a lay person – from each FMA House.

The first formation meeting took place from 1 to 14 November 2020 in Laura Vicuña FMA Community in Makuyu, Kenya. During the two weeks, 26 participants coming from the FMA Houses of Kenya, received formative contributions from professors of the Institute of Youth Studies of Tangaza University College in Nairobi. In Rwanda and Tanzania, the training took place from 23 November to 9 December 2020 and 23 participants were connected via a virtual platform.

At the end of the seminar, all participants received a certificate certifying the knowledge, skills, and competences required for the job. In all three countries, those who attended the seminars are enabled to conduct formation courses in their respective FMA missions for all the members of the Educating Communities, including children, staff, collaborators.

Don Bosco’s words – “May young people not only be loved, but  know that they are loved” – resound today as an appeal to commitment to the protection of rights and the protection of many young lives, to safeguard a  happy future for them.
