Rome (Italy). The Study Center on the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences “Auxilium” presents some important innovations on the Salesian.online platform, an important digital resource aimed at FMA, members of the Salesian Family, and all those who are passionate about the Salesian charism and committed to the educational mission, useful for deepening Salesian spirituality, pedagogy, and history.
The Salesian.online project, the result of scientific collaboration with the Don Bosco Study Center of the Salesian Pontifical University, constitutes a specialized digital library that collects over 6,000 Salesian documents in different languages, offering direct access to Salesian Sources, the Circular Letters of the Rectors Major and of the Mothers General FMA, as well as the complete works of Saint John Bosco.
Available through free access from any digital device, the platform provides original documents in full-text format with citable references, including primary sources, specialist studies, academic research, and digital resources relating to Salesian history, pedagogy, and spirituality.
Advanced search capabilities and artificial intelligence
The platform implements an advanced search system based on artificial intelligence, which allows the rapid and precise identification of specific contents within the entire document corpus. This tool allows in-depth thematic research on aspects of Salesian spirituality, the Preventive System, the writings of the Founders, and the magisterial documents of the Institute.
One of the latest innovations regarding the sources of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians is the creation ofthe collection of Circular Letters of the Mothers General, from Mother Caterina Daghero (1881-1924), up to Mother General emeritus Yvonne Reungoat (2008-2021).
Systematic organization of documentary heritage
Documentary material is organized according to scientific criteria that include:
- Thematic classification: spirituality, pedagogy, institutional history.
- Geographical distribution: from the Piedmontese reality to international missionary expansion.
- Historical periodization: from the 19th century to the present.
- Types of educational works: oratories, educational institutions, professional formation centers, missionary works, catechesis, boarding schools, associations.
- Publication languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German.
Applications for formation and research
The digital resource is configured as a support tool for multiple training and research activities, offering documentary support for:
- the preparation of formative interventions based on primary sources and authoritative studies;
- the development of contents for the ongoing formation of religious communities;
- the planning of educational and catechetical paths based on the Salesian educational tradition;
- the in-depth study of historical, spiritual, theological, and pedagogical research both at a personal and community level.
Development and innovation prospects
Salesian.online therefore presents itself as a constantly updated dynamic resource, which integrates multimedia materials, guided tutorial paths, and a specialized digital assistant. The portal represents a methodological bridge between the Salesian historical-pedagogical-spiritual heritage and the formation needs of the contemporary era, favoring processes of updating the educational charism.
The educating community is invited to consult and enhance this resource through the portal www.salesian.online, as a tool for deepening the charismatic heritage and for the renewal of the educational mission in the tradition of Saint John Bosco and Saint Mary Domenica Mazzarello.
