Cumiana (Italy). On 3 September 2022, in Cumiana, in the Province of Turin, within the initiatives of the “September Cumianese”, a pedestrian path was named after Mother Caterina Daghero, originally from Cumiana, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians and Superior General for 43 years, from 1881 to 1924, succeeding St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello, Co-founder of the FMA Institute.

Present were the Mayor, Roberto Costelli; some members of the Municipal Council, Municipal Councilors, and members of local associations, as well as the FMA of Mary Immaculate Community of Cumiana, Mary Help of Christians Province (IPI); and the Directors of the Peter Ricaldone Institute of the Salesians of Don Bosco of Cumiana, Bivio locality; and of the Vocational Training Center of CIOFS-FP Piedmont, named after Mother Daghero.

After the designation, the Mayor gave the word to Sr. Roberta Berton, Animator of the FMA Community, who briefly recounted some details of Catherine Daghero’s vocation, underlining:

“Mother Daghero continued the dream of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello on an urgency of all times: to be close to young people, in continuous renewal to understand what they need. We thank the Municipal Administration for having remembered and highlighted this town of the one who was the Mother General for 43 years and did not stop in Cumiana, nor in Mornese, nor in Nizza Monferrato, but opened the borders to the whole world.”

On the 150th Anniversary of the Foundation of the FMA Institute, the recognitions to the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, significant for their contribution to history, nourish in the FMA the gratitude and the desire to imitate their virtues and contribute to making the Charism known to young people and to all people who come into contact with them.
