Rome (Italy). On 21 January 2024, on the occasion of the Fifth Sunday of the Word of God, Pope Francis officially opened the Anno Year of Prayer in preparation for the Jubilee which will begin on 24 December 2024, whose motto is “Pilgrims of Hope”. Already in the Letter of 11 February 2022, addressed to the pro-prefect H.E. Mgr. Rino Fisichella to entrust the Dicastery for the Evangelization of the Jubilee, the Pope wrote, “From now on I am glad to think that the year before the Jubilee event 2024, may be dedicated to a great ‘symphony’ of prayer. Above all to recover the desire to be in the presence of the Lord, to listen to Him and to adore Him”.

In the preface to the booklet “Praying Today: A Challenge to Overcome” by Cardinal Angelo Comastri, one of the books in the Series “Notes on Prayer” promoted by the Dicastery for Evangelization and published in Italian by the Vatican Publishing House, Pope Francis writes:

“The Ordinary Jubilee of 2025 is at hand. How can we prepare for this important event in the life of the Church if not through prayer? Now is the right time to prepare the year 2024, which will be dedicated entirely to prayer. In fact, in our time the need for a true spirituality, capable of answering the great questions that face us every day, provoked also by a world scenario that is certainly not serene, is becoming ever stronger. [… ] We need, therefore, that our prayer rise with greater insistence towards the Father, so that He hears the voice of those who turn to Him in the confidence of being heard. [… ] It is a time in which, both personally and in community, we can rediscover the joy of praying in the variety of forms and expressions. It is a significant time to increase the certainty of our faith and trust in the intercession of the Virgin Mary and the saints. [… ]”
