Setúbal (Portugal). On 16 June 2023, in preparation for World Youth Day 2023, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 1 to 6 August on the theme “Mary arose and went with haste” (Lk 1:39), the young women of the Salesian Youth Movement of the St. Anna House of Setúbal, of Our Lady of Fatima Province (POR) gathered for a new “Rise up” meeting.

To offer young people an experience in line with the synodal journey lived in the Universal Church, the organization of the Day proposed a series of preparatory meetings to be held at the local level in the months of April, May, and June 2023, with content that offer spaces for reflection, listening, and sharing on the themes: Integral Ecology, Social Friendship, and the Great Proclamation of God’s love.

Accompanied by the Provincial Youth Ministry Coordinator, Sr. Linda Viera, by Sr. Diana Arrobas, and some animators, the young people met to reflect and share on the themes of the catechesis Rise up, guided by the verbs Listen – Dream – Rise up, according to the support material offered by the organization of the Day.

The meeting had an initial moment of welcome, followed by a shared supper. Subsequently, crossing spaces and with different dynamics, the group explored the three themes of the catechesis.

An average of more than forty young women took part in these meetings in the House of Setúbal. They came together to grow in group spirit, to share what they are experiencing, and to remain connected with the One who gives the profound meaning of this journey towards WYD 2023.

Each group has organized and is completing the preparations for the great event which will involve many thousands of young people from all over the world, based on their own needs and calendars, with the possibility of sending their reflections to the email address riseup@lisboa2023.org .

The contributions that will arrive will form the starting point for the Rise Up Meetings during the week of WYD Lisbon 2023, which will focus on the themes of Integral Ecology, Social Friendship, and Mercy, and will be organized in close collaboration with the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family, and Life.
