(Philippines). In response to the growing poverty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, St. Mary Mazzarello Province of the Philippines and Papua New Guinea (FIL), distributed packets of rice to the poorest families that was received as a donation from Charis Singapore.

Cases of contagion and deaths from Covid-19 have increased in several cities and municipalities of the Country and quarantine measures have been intensified with consequent unemployment and inconvenience to the family and country economy. To provide help and basic necessities to the poor, the FMA communities of St. John Bosco and Mary Help of Christians of Manila sent the available goods to the parish communities, many of which were donated by generous benefactors and members of the local Educating Community.

Most of the oratory families are poor. Rice is the staple food in the Country and gives them security, especially if they cannot buy other foods. For this reason, the sisters turned to Charis Singapore, the entity of the Archdiocese of Singapore that works for humanitarian aid abroad.

Charis Singapore sent a donation to the Province for the purchase of rice for each of the 1800 poor families of the Oratory Youth Centers.

From 5 to 17 July 2021, packages of rice were distributed to families in all the communities of the Province, thus making the families happy who were grateful for the help they received.

The FMA of the Province continue to pray for the end of the pandemic and to bear witness to solidarity and closeness to the poorest in the style of Salesian Spirituality.
