Bangkok (Thailand) On 1-2 May 2020, some Groups of the Salesian Family of Thailand – the Salesians of Don Bosco, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of St. Mary Mazzarello Province (THA), the Sisters Handmaids of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Sisters of the Regality di Mary, the Institute of the Daughters of the Regality of Mary, the Salesian Cooperators, the ADMA group, and the Past Pupils of the FMA and SDB – joined together to prepare and distribute parcels of food and other foodstuffs for the inhabitants of villages affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

On May 1, the distribution took place in favor of the population of the villages of Tha Kham, Sam Phran, Nakhon Pathom, with the help of some inhabitants. On May 2, 500 packets of food were distributed to the poor and needy living in the area of the School of Phra Mae Marie – Sathupradit. This school is located in central Bangkok, where people have been particularly affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. Food parcels have been procured by every Group of the Salesian Family. Civil officials from the Yannawa district provided assistance by organizing the distribution of parcels.

The Provincial of the Salesians, Fr John Bosco Dheparat Pitisant, addressed these words to the representatives of the Salesian Family: “To all the participating members, I would like to express my gratitude for having contributed to alleviating the suffering of many people. This is in line with the indications of Pope Francis and the Rector Major, who invite us to help those affected by the Covid pandemic 19. We of the Salesian Family cannot remain passive and indifferent. We try to be the first to collaborate, bringing relief to people in this situation that we are facing.”  Before delivering the parcels, the Provincial, on behalf of the members of the Salesian Family, also expressed encouragement and a desire to be of help to the villagers. In conclusion, he distributed a medal of Mary Help of Christians from Valdocco (Turin) to everyone present.
