Rome (Italy). Sunday 9 October 2022, at 10:15 am, in the courtyard of the Vatican Basilica,  Holy Father Francis will preside at the Eucharistic Celebration during which Blessed Artemide Zatti, Professed Layman of the Salesian Society of St. John Bosco will be canonized (12 October 1880, Boretto, Italy -15  March 1951, Viedma, Argentina), and of Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, Bishop of Piacenza and Founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles and of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo, (8 July 1839, Fino Mornasco, Italy – 1 June 1905, Piacenza, Italy).

“A great gift for the Church, a great gift for all of us”, said the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, inviting all the Salesian Coadjutors who wish to be present in St. Peter’s Square, the Superiors of the 91 Provinces and Vice Provinces of the Congregation, the Bishops, the Archbishops, the Salesian Cardinals, and all the members of the Salesian Family to be physically present, or to closely follow the event through the media.

The canonization of Artemide Zattithe first non-martyr Salesian Coadjutor to be proclaimed a saint, is in fact a reason for profound joy and gratitude for the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco and for the whole Salesian Family, as well as for the Church in Argentina, the land where the future saint emigrated to at the age of 17.

The inexplicable healing that paved the way for the canonization of Artemide Zatti took place in the Philippines in August 2016 and concerns a man who had been suffering from an ischemic stroke, accompanied by further complications, whose brother, a Salesian Coadjutor, started a prayer chain invoking the healing of the family member through the intercession of Blessed Artemide Zatti.

The liturgical memorial of St. Artemide Zatti will be celebrated on 13 November. Available are the Liturgical texts (prayers – lectionary – universal prayer) to be used both on the day of the Memorial and on the occasion of the celebrations in thanksgiving after the canonization. There is also available a musical hymn composted by Fr. Eduardo Meana Laporte, SDB of Argentina.
