Ponte Nova (Brazil). On 11 April  2026, Our Lady Help of Christians School (ENSA) in Ponte Nova, of Mother Mazzarello Province (BMM), celebrated 130 years of history with a special event open to the public, which brought together students, alumni, educators, families, and Mary Help of Christians Community of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.

Founded on 11 April 1896, ENSA reaches its 130th anniversary as an established institution and a benchmark in education in Ponte Nova, maintaining its commitment to holistic formation grounded in values, knowledge, and human development.

The celebration began in the school gymnasium with opening remarks by the Pedagogical Director, Marina Alves, followed by a historical presentation delivered by the Institutional Director, Sister Maria Helena Moreira, who highlighted the school’s growth over the decades. In her speech, she emphasized: “In the face of such a beautiful and meaningful history, we gather today to reap the fruits of the many individuals who helped build this true human heritage. It is we, here present, who carry forward the history of ENSA. Celebrating 130 years means opening ourselves to gratitude for the many generations who left their mark here through Salesian education and a commitment to the transformation of society.”

The program continued with a celebration led by Father Francisco, highlighting the values ​​that underpin the Institution’s educational philosophy. This was followed by cultural performances, including a theatrical and musical presentation by students from the Menino Jesus Foundation and the ExaltaENSA band, composed of students from the school.

One of the highlights of the morning was the tribute paid to the individuals who have helped shape the history of ENSA, including staff members, former directors, teachers, and Past Pupils. Those honored included: Sylvia de Almeida Costa Garavini, a Past Pupil; Maria das Graças Lima Nunes Pinheiro, the institution’s first lay director; Zélia Leonardo de Melo, the school’s longest-serving teacher; staff members Antônio Carlos da Silva, Rosa Bárbara de Oliveira Silva, Mônica Martins de Azevedo Paes, Joana Deusddite da Fonseca Magalhães, and Cleide Antônia Célio Amaral; as well as Sister Stella Matutina Ferreira, recognized for her role in promoting sports at ENSA. Each recipient received a commemorative plaque as a token of appreciation for their dedication and contributions.

The participants then gathered for the traditional exchange of well-wishes, celebrated with a commemorative cake, a symbol of the spirit of unity that has always characterized the school. The event continued with simultaneous activities, including an exhibit of historical memorabilia, the planting of a tree, and various recreational and sporting activities that fostered intergenerational integration.
