Makuyu (Kenya) With the lockdown due to the Coronavirus epidemic, it was not possible for three Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of the NS Province of Hope (AFE) living in Kenya to travel to Zambia (NS Province of Peace – AFM) for preparation for Perpetual Profession.

The alternative was offered by the Association of Religious of Kenya (AOSK) which proposed a 7-week course for the Sisters preparing for Perpetual Vows, through the Zoom videoconferencing platform, with streaming broadcasts from their center Chemchemi in Karen, Nairobi. More than 140 sisters from different Congregations in Africa and abroad are participating in the course, which started on 11 May and ends on 30 June 2020.

The lessons are broadcast live in the morning and in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday. The docents take turns dealing with various topics: Sacred Scripture, Community Life, Consecrated Life, Pastoral Ministry, Prayer, Discernment, and psychological, relational, and other themes.

On Saturday morning, the FMA receive a contribution on Salesian Spirituality with the attendance of the sisters of the two communities of Makuyu, while the Provincial, Sister Gisele Ndekezi, gives a weekly ‘Good Night’ from Nairobi through Zoom. Although the three FMAs have not been able to meet their companions in Zambia personally as expected, the smiles and words exchanged online during the course say: “We are together!”.
