Addis Abeba (Ethiopia). From March 17 to April 2, 2018 the Mother General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians is visiting Mary Help of Christians Preprovince of Ethiopia-Sudan-South Sudan (AES).

Mother was welcomed at the International Airport of Bole and it was immediately a celebration for the Educating Communities of Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan who opened their hearts to receive her as a pilgrim of peace, joy, and hope.

Mother Yvonne then arrived at Addis Abeba, the capital of Ethiopia and the headquarters of the African Union. As a guest of honor, she was escorted from the airport in the VIP zone. The Preprovince Superior, Sr. Ruth del Pilar Mora, accompanied by some Councilors, FMA coming from the various communities, among which Sudan, by past pupil representatives, and the young people, expressed their joy of having Mother among them.

Mother was then warmly welcomed by other members of the Provincial House community. During a moment of prayer, praise was given to the Lord for having visited us with the gift of the presence of Mother Yvonne, mediation of His care for each one and for the people with whom we share daily life, especially the children, young people, women, and families still marked by the continual suffering of life, but also with the capacity to dream and to look ahead to a better world.

During the prayer, remembrance was made of a page of the Chronical as a recall of the genuine spirit of Mornese. At the end, Mother received a bouquet of flowers that she placed at the feet of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as the hymn, ‘Mary Most Powerful Virgin’ was sung!

Mother Yvonne expressed her joy at being in our midst in a spirit of simplicity, sharing life, and feeling in communion with the whole Institute close to this part of the world.

Mother will visit the various realities of the Preprovince; she will meet the community animators, the FMA, SDB, Salesian Family Groups, pupils, young people, and educators. She will return to Rome on April 2, 2018.
