Mornese (Italy). From 13 to 23 September, in preparation for the missionary mandate, a group of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, new missionaries involved in the year of formation and preparation for the mission in Rome at the Generalate, and some missionaries ad gentes in Piedmont, live a charismatic experience in the places of origins in Mornese (AL), Nizza Monferrato (AT), Colle Don Bosco (Castelnuovo Don Bosco), Chieri (TO), and Turin.

This preparation, coordinated by the Missions Sector of the Institute, has the aim of helping the Sisters to deepen the meaning of the call ad gentes, which passes through the sign of the missionary mandate and the bestowal of the missionary cross.

In the footsteps of Mother Mazzarello and Don Bosco, we revive the missionary impetus of our charismatic origins. This is the general objective foreseen for this time in which the FMA have the possibility to pause, reflect, pray. For several of them, it will be the first time there where Mother Mazzarello and Don Bosco took their first steps in their call to life, to consecrated/priestly life, and to missionary life.

It is in fact a unique experience to be able to see first-hand how from Mornese, from Becchi, from such small and remote villages, the FMA Institute and the Salesian Congregation then expanded throughout the world, bringing the wealth of the Charism “to the borders of Earth”.

Thanks to the strong missionary passion of the Holy Founders, transmitted along the years through courageous and enterprising missionaries, many places from which the new missionaries come have been able to be reached. Today, they can express their gratitude towards that innumerable wake of “yeses” pronounced before them in these years of glorious and sacrificed history on the five continents.

The charismatic experience will end on 24 September 2023, in Turin in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians when 13 FMA and 24 SDB – this is the 146th Missionary Expedition for the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and the 154th for the Salesians of Don Bosco – will receive the missionary crucifix at the hands of the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, who will preside over the Eucharist, and of the Mother General of the FMA Institute, Sister Chiara Cazzuola.

The FMA who will receive the missionary cross come from Korea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Madagascar and Vietnam.

The Institute accompanies these Sisters with prayer during this time of preparation so they may experience that “The Spirit of Mornese is not a greenhouse spirit; it is a universal spirit” (Fr. Egidio Viganò).

  1. Buon cammino sulle orme di Cristo, di Don Bosco e di Madre Mazzarello. Sempre unite nella preghiera…anche se un mare immenso ci divide, rimaniamo unite nel Cuore di Cristo.
