(Mexico, Antilles, and Central America). On 15 February 2021, the Pre-Chapter Assembly of the Interprovincial Conference of Mexico, Antilles, and Central America – CIMAC was held online to share in-depth information on the Working Document of the XXIV General Chapter.
Participants were Mother General Yvonne Reungoat, Sr. Phyllis Neves, Visiting Councilor and Referent of the Conference, the Provincials and delegates to the XXIV General Chapter, and two lay.
The purpose of the meeting was to share the in-depth contributions of the six Provinces on the Working Document of GC XXIV, which were developed in the light of the experiences lived during the time of the Covid-19 Pandemic in the different contexts and the emergencies experienced as the consequences of natural disasters.
The meeting was enriching due to the fruitful experience of the various participants. In light of the three verbs: recognize, interpret, and define, key elements emerged that concretize the steps to be taken in order to be today “communities that generate life” at the vocational, synodal, and missionary-prophetic levels.
The words of Mother Yvonne Reungoat, Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, filled each of the participants with hope and vitality, “The pandemic has brought out problems already existing in our contexts. In these difficult and very uncertain times, creativity has not been lacking as an expression of the vitality of the Salesian charism inscribed in our DNA from the very beginning. The difficulties allowed us to find paths and new ways to reach children and young people, concretized in fidelity to the Preventive System. They invited us to let the Spirit sustain our faith in the certainty that we are not alone in this critical moment for our people, so poor and vulnerable.”
The meeting concluded with profound and involved sharing, in the hope that preparation for the General Chapter will continue to be a force that drives and animates daily life and the Salesian educational mission.
