Rome (Italy). On the morning of 15 October 2025, Mr. Juwa Juank Kankua Bosco, miraculously cured through the intercession of Sister Maria Troncatti, arrived from Ecuador in Rome, in the Generalate of the FMA Institute, to attend the Canonization of Sister Maria, on 19 October in St. Peter’s Square, and the celebrations accompanying the event.
Travelling with him were his wife Natalina, his son, his sister-in-law who had placed the image of Sister Troncatti on his bed, his brother-in-law, and some Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Sacred Heart Province (ECU), including the Provincial, Sister Lupe Erazo, Sister Cruz María Piña Peláez, the previous Provincial who followed the case, providing the necessary aid, and Sister Elena Tinitana, member of the Canon Court who followed the Canonization process. All were welcomed with joy by Mother Chiara Cazzuola and the General Councilors, the Animator, the Vicar, and various FMAs of the Generalate Community.
Great emotion was aroused by the pause for prayer in the Chapel, in front of the relic of Sister Maria Troncatti, to which Mr. Juwa addressed with filial affection, “Madrecita, Madrecita! ¡Llegue!” … Madrecita, Madrecita, I have arrived!
The family and Sisters then addressed some prayer intentions and sang a song in their native language. Originally from the province of Morona Santiago, Juwa belongs to the Shuar population, with whom Sister Maria worked, and gave her life for reconciliation between settlers and Shuar.
On 2 February 2015, while sharpening tools in the Amazon rainforest, he was violently hit on the right side of his skull by a large stone fragment, which caused a deep fracture with leakage of brain matter. His family members and the mission community, despite the seemingly desperate situation, immediately entrusted him to the intercession of the missionary, already Blessed. In late March and early April 2015, the miracle that paved the way for his Canonization occurred.
He himself recounts his miraculous recovery in a video interview, on the Institute’s YouTube Channel and in an interview published in the latest issue of Da Mihi Animas magazine, recognizing that it is not only physical, but also spiritual and that now, “My whole family is happy, and so happy I want to die.” He also states that his is not the only miracle that occurred through Sister Maria’s intercession and that “in the Shuar people, Sister Maria Troncatti is indeed alive.”
In the next few days, together with his family and the Sisters, Mr. Juwa will experience this great event of the Church and the Salesian Family as a protagonist, bringing, together with his testimony, the prayer intentions of an entire population.
The first appointment is for Friday 17 October when, at the opening of the celebrations at 5pm in the Generalate of Rome, he will recount his experience.
