Rome (Italy). On 25 November 2024, during the Audience granted to Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, authorized the Dicastery to promulgate the Decree concerning the miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Maria Troncatti, professed Sister of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, born in Córteno Golgi (Italy) on 16 February 1883, and died in Sucúa (Ecuador) August 1969.

The Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, as soon as she heard the news, wrote to the Provinces, to the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, and to all members of the Salesian Family:

At the very beginning of this three-year period of preparation for the first missionary departure of the FMA, it is with joy and gratitude that I welcome and pass on to all of you the news that che Sister Maria Troncatti will soon be “Saint”, like and following the example of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello.

Today, in fact, the Holy Father Francis authorized the promulgation of the Decree of super miraculous attributed to the intercession of Blessed Maria Troncatti, professed Sister of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, born in Córteno Golgi (Italy) on 16 February 1883, and died in Sucúa (Ecuador) on 25 August 1969.

For our Institute, for the Salesian Family, for Ecuador, in particular the Apostolic Vicariate of Mendez, and in Italy for Corteno Golgi, her native country, for the Diocese of Brescia, this is a day of joy and thanksgiving for the gift of holiness of this Sister, missionary, fearless ‘Mother’, passionate evangelizer, educator capable of promoting and protecting life, promoter of women, who offered herself as a victim for peace and reconciliation between Shuar and settlers.

With the whole Church, we await the announcement of the official date of her Canonization.

I thank the Postulator General of the Salesian Family, Fr. Pierluigi Cameroni SDB, and the Sisters who have followed her cause: Sister Giuliana Accornero, Sister Sylwia Ciezkowska, Sister Francesca Caggiano, and those who have collected the documentation and written the biographies to make her known.

As an institute, let us deepen our knowledge of her and let us spread her intercession and engage in involving many young people in the imitation of her holiness.
