Rome (Italy). On 30 January 2024, at 2.30 pm (Rome time), via online platform, Talitha Kum, the international anti-trafficking network of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG), composed of over 6,000 religious, friends, and partners, presents a new initiative: the application “Walking In Dignity”.

The App is an invitation to walk on the journey towards awareness about human trafficking and its prevention. It is in fact a creative and innovative tool that offers features including a virtual journey to collect “tokens” in conjunction with the stages of real life. At the same time, users can delve into the various perspectives on human trafficking and “gain steps”. It is an invitation to everyone, in particular to young people, to download this app designed to learn, care, and actively engage in favor of people involved in trafficking and to cure, heal, and promote the empowerment of survivors.

The creation of this application was made possible thanks to the collaboration and support of Misean Cara, Embassy of Ireland to the Holy See, Embassy of the United States to the Holy See, Galileo Foundation, and Global Solidarity Fund.

Talitha Kum is committed to make reality the words addressed by Jesus to the daughter of Jairus, the twelve-year-old who lay apparently lifeless: “Talità kum,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise!” (Mk 5:41). The girl immediately got up and started walking, regaining life and dignity.

The strength of the network lies in its grassroots commitment through a bottom-up strategy and its person and community-focused approach, which ensures proximity to victims and survivors of trafficking, to their families, and to those at risk of exploitation.

The Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians has been part of the “Talitha Kum” Network since its inception in 2009, through the exchange of information, the commitment to prevention, the promotion of initiatives in different contexts, the strengthening of activities against trafficking, in collaboration with the Consecrated women of the various continents.

  1. This is inspiring and empowering. Our young are suffering due to lack of awareness. Need to be be empowered and create opportunities to work in their respective countries. They look for employment. Poverty is a serious problem to them.
