Coahuila (Mexico). On October 22, 2018, in the Saint Mary of Nazareth community of Mother of the Church Province (MMO), Sr. Elodia Leal Cárdenas celebrated her 108th birthday.

Sister Elodia was born in Allende, N.L. and at the age of 7, her family moved to Monterrey. She is the sixth of twelve children, of whom three are consecrated to God in the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians: Sister Elodia 108 years, Sister Ester 98 years, and Sister Rebecca who has already returned to the Father’s house.

Sister Elodia studied with the Sisters of Guadalupe and at the end of the fifth year of Elementary School, she met the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians through a friend. With the FMA she began the sixth year of study at the Excelsior School and attended the festive oratory.

In 1942 Sister Elodia made her first religious profession in the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. On August 5, 2018 she celebrated 76 years of religious life lived in different houses of the province: Mexico, Morelia, Saltillo, Colima, Monterrey, Amatitán. Most of her life was dedicated to the education of adolescents in the Middle School and with the children of the Elementary School.

Since 2009 Sr. Elodia is in the nursing home Saint Mary of Nazareth in Arteaga, Coahuila. In celebrating the 108 years of Sister Elodia’s life, the Mexican FMA thank God for the gift of her long life and ask God’s abundant blessing on her and on the Province.
