Lubumbashi (Democratic Rep. of the Congo). On 8 November 2025, the courtyard of Tuendelee High School, Our Lady of Africa Province hosted the official opening of the Centenary Tournament of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This major event, organized as part of the 100-year educational mission of the FMAs in the Country, brought together several schools, youth movements, and youth representatives from various Province communities. The tournament takes place from 8 November 2025, to 15 March 2026, and is coordinated by Sister Joséphine Bela, FMA Chair of the Centennial Commission, and Mr. Ping Pong.

The day began in an atmosphere full of enthusiasm. The young people, wearing their brightly colored uniforms, participated in a festive march with the team parade. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Provincial, Sister Clarisse Ngoie, who in her introductory discourse recalled the historical and educational significance of this event:

“This centenary is not just a celebration. It is the recognition of a long journey of love, an educational presence among young people. The tournament expresses our confidence in youth, our willingness to promote them and to accompany them towards a future of peace and responsibility. Have a great adventure and have fun!”

Sports competitions were subsequently launched. The first important moment was the opening basketball game, in which the Tuendelee and Hodari teams faced off, accompanied by warm applause from the crowd. The players’ energy, discipline, and fair-play spirit helped create a good foundation for a promising tournament.

Meanwhile, other teams competed on different courts: in Salama and Imara, where several football, volleyball, and other sports matches were held. These simultaneous competitions highlighted the diversity of young people’s sporting talents and their ability to experience healthy competitiveness.

The Centenary Tournament, however, is not limited to sport. In keeping with the pedagogy of integral education, the event also offered a space for artistic and cultural expression. The young people participated passionately in various recreational activities, in particular: the Miss pageant, the fashion show, the dance, moments appreciated for the creativity and festive spirit they brought to the day.

The atmosphere was characterized by joy, a spirit of belonging and unity, respect, and healthy competition. This first day of the tournament thus kicked off the centenary celebrations in the most beautiful way, testifying to the centuries-old mission of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians: to educate by forming the heart, mind, and body.
