Belo Horizonte (Brazil). On 17 March 2023, during the meeting of the Animators of Mother Mazzarello Province (BMM) at the provincial seat of Belo Horizonte, the monument in honor of Mother Mazzarello was inaugurated, created on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (1872-2022).

The statue of Mother Mazzarello had been blessed by the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, in Brasilia on 27 August 2022.

The Community Animators and the FMA present in the Provincial House participated in the inaugural Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Fr. Ádano Pinheiro, SDB. The monument in honor of Mother Mazzarello is a way to remember and celebrate the legacy left by the Co-founder of the Institute.

This homage acquires significance not only for the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, but also for all those who admire the person and work of Mother Mazzarello. The inspiration and leadership skills of Mary Domenica Mazzarello were fundamental in allowing the Congregation to become one of the largest religious institutes in the world, present in 98 countries.

The encounter of the Community Animators of the BMM Province, held in the Provincial House of Belo Horizonte on March 17-18, was a special time of prayer, reflection, and sharing. The Animators participated experientially in workshops on the theme, “The experience of God that contagions and generates life”:

  • Mazzarello and the Community of Mornese: Community that generates life.
  • Mazzarello and the Community of Mornese: fraternal relations – synodality.
  • Mazzarello and the Community of Mornese: Experience of missionary synodality – Church outgoing.

By deepening the Salesian charism, the participants in the meeting were able, in a spirit of fraternity and mutual esteem, to share part of the gifts of each community, strengthening the communion that unites in the shared mission. The path of the Animators continues, in synodality with the Educating Communities and under the blessing of Mary Help of Christians, Mother Mazzarello, and Don Bosco.
