Rome (Italy). March 11, 2021 marks the first anniversary of the election of the Rector Major of the Salesians and Successor of Don Bosco, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, which took place during the 28th  General Chapter of the Salesian Congregation, held in Turin-Valdocco (Italy).

Elected for the first time in 2014 as X Successor of Don Bosco by the 27th  General Chapter, on 11 March 2020 Fr. Ángel was elected for a second term for the animation of the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Salesian Family for the sexennium 2020 -2026.

The Rector Major is the father and center of unity of the Salesian Family. As the Successor of Don Bosco he is called to promote fidelity to the Salesian charism and to carry out the apostolic project of the Founder: to be in the Church signs and bearers of God’s love for young people, especially the poorest.

In the message after the election, the Rector Major turned his thoughts to young people: “I think this six year period must be strongly marked by this conviction: we must bring God to young people… Especially to the most needy young people, the poorest, the exploited, the discarded… We were born for them”.

The Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians wishes Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime to continue to animate the Congregation and the Salesian Family “with the heart of a father”, placing himself under the protection of Saint Joseph, as Don Bosco recommended: “I want you all to place yourself under his protection. If you pray to him from your heart, he will obtain any grace, be it spiritual or temporal, that you may need”.
