Chiang Mai (Thailand). In the aftermath of typhoon Kajiki, that on 27 August 2025, hit some villages in northern Thailand causing destruction, victims, and missing persons, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Saint Joseph Community of Chom Thong, of the Saint Mary Mazzarello Province (THA), immediately took action to bring rapid support to the families.

On 29 August, the Sisters visited a family whose home was completely overwhelmed by mud and debris. In an attempt to protect her five-month-old baby, the mother suffered a violent blow, causing serious injuries to her ribs and lower limbs and she remained immobilized. The father also suffered injuries to one foot, while the newborn suffered only minor abrasions. The victims were given initial financial support and the needed goods.

On 30 August, the Salesian Sisters, together with five students from the Thida Rak group who live and study at Saint Joseph Community, and whose families are among those affected by the disaster in Ban Pang Ung, reached the devastated areas together with the Betharramite Fathers and the priests of the Diocese of Chiang Mai. Despite the transport difficulties – with one truck stopping due to a breakdown and another unable to overcome the steepest sections of the road – the mission was successful and they managed to transfer the loads and distribute aid to the village clinic, the school, and the church of St. John Baptist, the heart of the local Catholic community.

At the same time, authorities, volunteers, and inhabitants continued the search for the missing; one was found, while another is still missing. Various organizations, entities, and volunteers provided material contributions and human resources to support reconstruction and to restore hope to the affected families.

The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of the THA Province would like to thank all those who collaborated with generosity and a spirit of solidarity. The Congregation will continue to follow the situation closely, ensuring support and closeness to the communities injured by the disaster.

It is possible to send contributions and offerings in the manner indicated on the Website of the FMA Institute, indicating in the motive: Thailand Emergency.
