Thailand. On 27 August 2025, Typhoon Kajiki, after touching Vietnam and Laos, hit northern Thailand forcefully with torrential rains, generating floods and landslides that caused the destruction of houses, bridges, and roads, leaving entire communities isolated, particularly in the provinces of Nan, Chiang Rai, and Mae Hong Son.

The typhoon caused some casualties, diverse injuries, and missing. Over 1,800 homes were damaged and more than 6,000 people were affected, including the families of the boys and girls linked to the Community of Saint Joseph of Chom Thong, of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Saint Mary Mazzarello Province (THA).

At the moment it is not yet possible to directly reach the affected areas; roads and paths remain impassable. As soon as they can, the Sisters of Chom Thong will visit the children’s families and deliver aid to the affected villagers.

Meanwhile, they are collecting donations from local benefactors, students, past-pupils, collaborators and outside organizations, and preparing materials to bring to those in need. Those wishing to contribute can join the FMA for the purchase of basic necessities, such as food, clothing, blankets, and more.

Informed of the situation, while in Paraguay for the Triennial Verifica of the CIB and CICSAL Conferences, the Superior General of the FMA Institute, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, asked for prayers from the Verifica participants.

The Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians offers concrete support to the population and counts on the generosity and solidarity of all. It is possible to send contributions and offerings in the manner indicated on Website of the FMA Institute, designating as the motive Thailand Emergency.
