Rome (Italy). At the beginning of the Triennial of preparation for the 150th anniversary of the first missionary departure of the FMA (2024-2027), the volume, “The Constitutions of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians: a journey of holiness in daily life” is published, the result of the work of an International Commission of FMA, coordinated by the Mother General Emerita, Sister Yvonne Reungoat and by Sister Piera Cavaglià, former Secretary General of the Institute, with the advice and review of Fr. Pascual Chávez Villanueva, Rector Major emeritus of the Salesian Congregation.
In the Introduction, Sister Piera Cavaglià explains the purpose of this text, offered to every FMA, that is to provide “adequate keys for reading articles and promote the vital assimilation of our Rule of life.” This is according to what “was proposed by the Chapter Members during General Chapter XXIII of 2014, and renewed in the following Chapter Assembly of 2021.”
It also illustrates the originality of this practical commentary on the Constitutions, compared to various comments published over the years, such as that of Carlo Colli. “This presents not only the entirety of the text, but each article of the Constitutions offering some keys to reading from the experience of the FMA, from the indications of the universal law of the Church, and the Institute’s own law.”
The practical application of the articles is further highlighted by the reference to the Regulations. “Constitutions and Regulations are, in fact, together with the various documents of the Institute’s own Law, our path of holiness in daily life.”
In presenting the text, the Superior General of the FMA Institute, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, underlines the significance of the publication of the volume in view of the 150th anniversary of the first missionary departure of the FMA. “I am increasingly convinced that the path of renewal of the Institute and its missionary fruitfulness pass through the vital, personal, and community assimilation of the Constitutions.”
Therefore, it relies on the reading and meditation of this by each: “Practical commentary, certain that you will treasure it as a concrete itinerary of following Christ and, therefore, an opportunity to make our life and the mission entrusted to us in the Church ever more generative.”
