Rome (Italy). On 31 May 2025, during Laudato Si’ Week (24-31 May), a webinar will be held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si’ on the care of the common home (24 May 2015).
The objective of this webinar, organized by the International Commission for Integral Ecology and the Sectors of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, is to propose to the FMA, to the young people and Educating Communities of different contexts and cultures a grateful reflection on all that this important document has inspired, to renew the commitment in the care of our common home, as expressed by General Chapter XXIV: We assume integral ecology as a dimension of life and the educative mission, according to Laudato Si’.
“Increasing Hope” is the theme of Laudato Si’ Week and the online meeting, which, in addition to the anniversary of the Encyclical, interweaves several significant events for the year 2025:
- The Jubilee Year, a time of grace to rediscover the path of hope, according to the motto chosen by Pope Francis, who urged us to guard our common home with concrete choices of justice and fraternity: “The Jubilee event invites us to undertake various changes, in order to face the current situation of injustice and inequality, remembering that the goods of the earth are destined not only for some privileged people, but for everyone.” (Message for the World Day for Peace 2025)
- The 800th anniversary of the Canticle of the Creatures of Saint Francis, the inspiring Canticle of the Encyclical, in which the Saint of Assisi recalls that creation is a gift and relationship: sun, moon, water, and earth are brothers and sisters to be respected. This praise translates into responsibility and concrete commitment for an economy and policy attentive to life.
- The 150th anniversary of the first missionary expedition of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (14 November 1877), of which the Triennium in preparation, has begun, a sign of an outgoing Church. The mission is to safeguard life, cultures, and the environment. What is the mission of each one towards creation?
- The now imminent canonization of Sister Maria Troncatti, a model of a holiness that bends over human and environmental wounds in the service among indigenous peoples.
The webinar foresees the greeting of Sister Ruth del Pilar Mora, General Councilor for the Missions and responsible for the International Commission for Integral Ecology; a biblical-theological contextualization of the jubilee theme, curated by Sister Linda Pocher, FMA; a formative moment on the art of taking care in the perspective of Sister Maria Troncatti, proposed by Sister Francesca Caggiano, Vice Postulator of the Causes of the Saints of the FMA Institute; the intervention of Sister Carmelita Conceição, Provincial of Our Lady of the Amazon Province (BRM) and Vice President of the Pan-Amazon Ecclesial Network (REPAM): a “journey” to discover the main realities of mission of the FMA with indigenous peoples of five continents.
The event will be transmitted on the YouTube Channel CGMANET of the FMA Institute in Italian, while simultaneous translations into French, Spanish, Portuguese, and English can be followed on the Zoom platform via the link that will be sent to the Provinces three days before the webinar.
