Rome (Italy). From 28 July to 3 August 2025, young people will animate the city of Rome in the Jubilee dedicated to them. Around 5,000 participants from 33 countries are expected from the Salesian houses, accompanied by Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and Salesians of Don Bosco.

Waiting for them, Pope Leo XIV, who on 15 June, at the end of the Angelus, had told them, “I look forward to seeing you in a month and a half at the Youth Jubilee! May the Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace, intercede for us.”

In the Press Conference of presentation, on 23 July, Bishop Rino Fisichella, pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Section for Fundamental Issues of Evangelization in the World and responsible of the Holy See for the Jubilee, spoke of the Youth Jubilee as “the most awaited moment” of the Holy Year, because it is the most attended” and underlined that, among the presences from 146 countries, are pilgrims from conflict areas: Lebanon, Iraq, Myanmar, Ukraine, Israel, Syria, and South Sudan. “This moment of celebration, of joy, also desires to give them the embrace of all the young people of the world, to indicate that it will be a genuine moment of peace and peace-building in the world.”

Together with common events,  the welcome Holy Mass in St. Peter’s Square (29 August), the cultural, artistic, and spiritual activities widespread in the city; the possibility of pilgrimages and the Jubilee at the Holy Doors; the penitential day at the Circus Maximus (1 August); the Vigil and the Holy Mass with Pope Leo (2-3 August);  the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement will meet to live their being pilgrims of Hope, in the Charism of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello.

Program of the SYM Jubilee

The SYM groups, welcomed in the Salesian Hub of Rome, made up of the FMA and SDB Communities near the Basilica of Don Bosco, will be offered the opportunity to experience moments of catechesis, proclamation, celebration of the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Between 28 July and 1 August, in the Don Bosco Temple, priests will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and spiritual dialogue, while between 28 July and 2 August, the Salesian Center will host the Catecheses coordinated by SDB and FMA, divided by languages.

Moments of entertainment and celebration will then be offered in the square in front of the Basilica of Don Bosco, in particular:

  • the SYM Fair, in the afternoon/evening of July 29th in Piazza Don Bosco, in front of Don Bosco Basilica, with the possibility of exchanging gadgets from the Salesian world.
  • The SYM Jubilee Festival, of 30 July, an evening that will involve all young people from the Salesian world with artistic interventions, dinner in the square, evening and vigil presided over by Fr. Rafael Bajerano, SDB, General Councilor for Youth Ministry. The event will end with Eucharistic Adoration and Goodnight by the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, and the Mother General, Sister Chiara Cazzuola.
  • the Mandate of the Rector Major and of Mother General to the SYM Youth Jubilee, on the morning of August 2nd, before leaving to reach Tor Vergata, where the Vigil and the Holy Mass presided over by the Holy Father will take place.

In addition to being an ecclesial event of great significance, the Youth Jubilee will be an opportunity for the thousands of participants to experience as protagonists a sort of laboratory of fraternity, peace, and reconciliation between peoples and with creation, confirming their faith at the source to continue to be pilgrims of hope in the world and in their own realities.
