Saint Maria Troncatti in the “Staircase of Saints” Brescia

Brescia (Italy). On the evening of 13 December 2025, in the parish of Saint Maria of Darfo Boario Terme, in the Province of Brescia, Diocese of origin of Saint Maria Troncatti canonized on 19 October, a moment of commemoration was held in her honor, which concluded with the blessing of the new iconography of the Saint painted on the “Stairway of the Saints” of Brescia and the Camonica Valley, a tribute to the faith of this land

The paintings throughout the church are the work of the painter Rota Sperti, who joyfully and enthusiastically added the new camun Saint. In the Staircase of Saints Brescian and Camunian, the following appear in ascending order: Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Saint Paul VI, Blessed Innocent of Berzo, Father Giovanni Battista Piamarta, Saint Geltrude Comensoli, Blessed Giuseppe Tovini, Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa, Blessed Annunciata Cocchetti, and Saint Maria Troncatti.

The vice-parish priest of Darfo, Fr. Andrea Maffina, blessed the painting and presided over the small celebration, accompanied by the Pineta Choir, directed by Maestro Francesco Gheza. The songs were alternated with readings on the life of Sister Maria, proclaimed by the Saint’s great-grandchildren and by members of the Corteno Golgi community, who came for the occasion. Sister Stefania Fiorini, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians, a native of Darfo Boario Terme, was also present.

The moment allowed us to remember and reflect on the way Christianity lives today, encouraged by local witnesses such as Sister Maria Troncatti who, in the footsteps of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, brought Christ’s message to distant lands as a missionary, becoming an artisan of peace and reconciliation for those populations.
