Ružomberok (Slovakia). On 4 September 4 2025, in the exhibition hall of the rectorate of the Catholic University of Ružomberok, during the Poslovia nádeje (Messengers of Hope) conference, the award ceremony of the Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta Award took place, awarded by the Social Sub-commission of the Episcopal Conference of Slovakia.

The Award, named after the Holy Founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity, expresses gratitude to those who have long – and often in the shadows – served the poor, drawing inspiration from the Gospel and seeing the face of Jesus in the needy. The Eparchial Bishop of Bratislava, Archbishop Peter Rusnák, presented the Prize to six candidates, including three Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of  St. John Bosco Province  (SLK) who work in Orechov dvor, near Nitra: Sister Eva Pullmannová, Sister Maria Macáková, and Sister Anna Chrkavá.

The three FMA winners belong to Blessed Maria Troncatti Community of Nitra and have worked for many years in the Orechov dvor district, dedicating themselves to the Roma community with promotional, social, educational, and evangelization activities. In particular, they take care of the children and mothers of the maternal center, in the nursery school, and in the Good Shepherd’s Atrium. Metaphorically, the Award is also conferred to all the other FMAs that, since 2012, have worked in this Community.

During the award ceremony, Bishop Rusnák affirmed, “As St. John Paul II said, we do not have to  be many, but we must be saints, because holiness precedes the love that manifests itself in our actions. Calcutta is found all over the world. After today’s inspirational meeting, everyone will see their Calcutta better –whether it is before their eyes or right under their nose – and will find the courage to love those who need it most. Thank you for your open eyes, open ears, and open hearts.”

The Prize consists of a medal designed by sculptor Michal Gavula, which depicts Mother Teresa with a rosary in her hands; seven beads extend beyond the circle, symbolizing the biblical number. The reverse of the medal bears the inscription “Rob iť ty samě” (You also do the same) and the cross of Saints Cyril and Methodius with the rays of the Holy Spirit and two helping hands.

To the Sisters of Nitra, congratulations for the Award, with the wish that you continue to be always signs of hope for the population, especially among the poorest, and contagion with your example  many young people and people of good will.
