Lima (Peru). In view of the Canonization of Sister Maria Troncatti and in the 1st year of the Triennium in preparation for 150th of the 1st missionary expedition, the Peruvian Province Saint Rose of Lima (PER) offers some resources to accompany the different age groups in the knowledge and study of the character of Sister Maria Troncatti.
Sister Maria Troncatti and Salesian Youth Spirituality
This is a resource developed by the Provincial teams of Youth Ministry and Missions designed for young people from different educational environments: Oratories and Youth Centers, Professional Centers, Shelters, and all those who give dynamism to the Salesian Youth Movement.
It consists of a notebook of 7 modules that can be used weekly from the liturgical feast of Sister Maria Troncatti (25 August) until the date of her Canonization (19 October 2025).
The material is structured to be developed over seven weeks, with a flexible formation course to guide young people in personal and community reflection starting from the figure of Sister Maria. It invites them, not only to delve deeper into their own history, but also to dialogue with it, to find parallels with one’s reality, and to extract principles that illuminate one’s vocational and personal journey, according to the characteristics of Salesian Youth Spirituality.
Salesian Youth Spirituality (SGS) is a concrete way of living the Christian life and striving towards holiness, in docility to what the Holy Spirit suggests day by day. The “symbol of the hand” summarizes the characteristics of the SYS which, in the most genuine spirit of Valdocco and Mornese, lead to holiness.
In Sister Maria Troncatti some elements are identified that inspire following a pilgrimage along the challenging but always surprising path of faith: Always; Cheerful; With Christ; In the Church; For the world; Like Mary.
This resource – in Spanish, Italian, and English – aims to be a tool at the service of the integral formation of young people, encouraging them to discover in Sister Maria a model of dedication, joy, and fidelity to the Gospel. Her testimony, deeply rooted in SYS, invites us to walk with hope, to live with authenticity, and to respond generously to God’s call in the concrete reality of life.
Resource in view of 150th of the 1st FMA missionary expedition
Welcoming the invitation of Mother Chiara Cazzuola to live the three-year period in preparation for 150th of the FMA missions (14 November 2024-2027), making this time a vital journey in which all members of the Educating Communities can rekindle the missionary fire (Cir. 1038), the PER Province shares the life of the first missionaries who reached America bringing the Salesian Charism.
This initiative is part of the Projected Reading Plan aimed at girls, adolescents, and young people. It is designed as a proposal to be implemented over three years, to prepare to celebrate the 150th anniversary. Over the three years, they will delve into:
2025: Sister Angela Denegri, Sister Giovanna Borgna, and Sister Maria Troncatti (in view of her canonization):
2026: Sister Angela Cassulo and Sister Teresa Gedda;
2027: Sister Teresina Mazzarello and Sister Angela Vallese.
The synthesis and editing are by Sister Olga Winkelried, while the layout was done by Sister Jenny Cruzat.
The love of the first Sisters for Jesus and the desire to make everyone aware of the beauty of friendship with Him, enthused these missionaries to cross the great ocean, leaving their homeland and family, to arrive in America to proclaim Him, so that many generations could enjoy the warmth of faith and the presence of God in their lives.
