Fatima (Portugal). On 8 January 2025 in Fatima, in the context of the triennial verifica of the CIME Interprovincial Conference for Europe and the Middle East, during the Good Night, the Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, made known the image and slogan that will accompany the path towards the Canonization of Sister Maria Troncatti, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians, missionary.
On 25 November 2024, the Holy Father authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to promulgate the Decree concerning the miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Sister Maria Troncatti – born in Córteno Golgi (Italy) on 16 February 1883, and died in Sucúa (Ecuador) August 25, 1969 – and we are awaiting the date of canonization.

Mother Chiara explains, “In agreement with the General Council, we have chosen this photo in which she is already advanced in life and expresses, even from the features of her face, the maturity and motherhood that were recognized in Sister Maria Troncatti by her own indigenous people. After her first approaches with them, she earned the title of ‘Madrecita’ – a very tender name that in Spanish means ‘little mother’ – felt in a very deep way. And so she was called to the end of her life and is remembered even today, I say, with this most beautiful name.”

“Sister Maria Troncatti is Mother, first of all. She is missionary, because what she did – with the power of God and the wisdom of the Holy Spirit – can only be done by a missionary with a big and generous heart. She is an Artisan of peace and reconciliation because, in her constant mission, she always tried to put the colonists in concord with the Indians, because it was a mutual war, and her life was offered precisely to heal a fratricidal struggle that could have brought many victims. It was offered so that there would be peace between these two populations.”
Mother concludes, “There were many other beautiful photos but this one seemed to us the most expressive of her fullness of life in Jesus, her fullness of gift, and also her fullness of motherhood.”
Like every saint, the figure of Sister Maria Troncatti has several facets, among which some have been focused to present her in today’s context and in the Church. The Canonization is a time of grace to renew ourselves as an Institute and learn how to be saints today.

Looking forward eagerly to this great event in our Institute. “Beloved Jungle”, her biography, was the first book I read before I joined our Institute, and grew in my love for and trust in Mary Help of Christians.

Una mujer, que se realizó, como mujer, religiosa consagrada, misionera, haciéndose, don para los demás, don y pan cotidiano, para cuantos trataba, con la mira siempre en Dios, con quien se encontraba cada mañana madrugando y ofreciendo lo mejor de sí misma, para ser luego pan para los demás, y con la firmeza y ternura de una auténtica madre, por eso el nombre ganado por su entrega total “Madrecita”. Que Sor Troncatti interceda ante el Señor y nos envíe las vocaciones que necesitamos para seguir construyendo el Reino de Dios, en nuestro aquí y ahora.
Hermosa foto, presencia de una mujer que acogió con amor el proyecto de Dios en su vida. Como Hija de María Auxiliadora, vivió en plenitud su consagración y como misionera ad gentes, se entregó con pasión hasta el heroísmo en lo ordinario de cada día. Todo para gloria de Dios.
