{"id":7179,"date":"2019-10-24T11:17:12","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T09:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/infosphere\/stato-di-emergenza-in-cile\/"},"modified":"2019-11-13T12:46:36","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T11:46:36","slug":"state-of-emergency-in-chile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/en\/humanitarian-emergencies-and-campaigns\/state-of-emergency-in-chile\/","title":{"rendered":"State of emergency in Chile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Santiago (Chile).<\/strong> The FMA send news from St. Gabriel Archangel Province (CIL) about the difficult and painful situation that they are living since October 21, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince October 21, 2019, the inhabitants of Santiago, Chile began mass demonstrations because of the increase in the price of the metro ticket of 30 pesos, that brought the price to $1.19.\u00a0 The minimum salary is about $420, which would result in a monthly expense of about $47 only for transportation.<\/p>\n<p>This event aggravated the existing social situation in Chile of 30 years of an economic model that still does not satisfy the standard for an equitable and just society: pension system, health, public transport, water privatization, education and social mobility, abuse and corruption.<\/p>\n<p>There have been many episodes of even violent protest, destruction of the metro, looting in the supermarkets and pharmacies. \u00a0President Sebasti\u00e1n Pi\u00f1era has proclaimed a State of Emergency in Santiago City and in other cities of Chile.<\/p>\n<p>There are also peaceful and cultural demonstrations that re-awakened the solidarity and unity of the people. #weareunited.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Chile-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"td-modal-image alignleft wp-image-7171 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Chile-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"288\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Chile-2.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Chile-2-768x632.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Chile-2-696x573.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Chile-2-510x420.jpg 510w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 350px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 350\/288;\" data-original-sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a>The dramatic situation of these days has led Chile to suspend activities at Santiago and in the educative and scholastic Communities.\u00a0 The FMA and the collaborators of Salesian works continue their mission in spite of the difficulties of transportation, the long lines to buy essential goods, the precariousness of work, and the temporary closing of the school.
