The toll has risen to 2,189 dead, more than 10,000 injured, thousands homeless, extensive material damage, with rescue operations, and the search for missing persons still underway.<\/p>\n<p>The most affected geographical area is the South West of the country, where the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of the O. L. of Perpetual Help Province (HAI) have three communities:\u00a0 <em>Mary Help of Christians Community<\/em> in Gommiers (Jeremie),\u00a0 <em>St. Joseph Educator Community<\/em> in Anse-\u00c0-Veau (Nippes), <em>O. L. of Perpetual Help Community<\/em> in Les Cayes.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHelped by the citizens of the Haitian community, we organize ourselves to give an adequate response to the needs of the people with our means. Aid has already been sent to some people from the Anse-Veau Community in Nippes. We will continue to support them by trying to help the most disadvantaged. We plan to organize distributions to Les Cayes and Les Gommiers in the next few days\u201d, <\/em>comments Sr. Altagr\u00e2ce Mathias<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In Les Cayes, the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake is considerable. The Provincial, on 17 August 2021, despite tropical storm \u2018Grace\u2019 that raged precisely in that area, visited the Community of Les Cayes together with two FMA of the Provincial Council and with two Engineers, to examine the situation.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Animator, Sr. Aline Nicolas, and the other Sisters of the Community who welcomed us, are courageous and optimistic. We observed that the house was damaged in several places and the fences fell. Much of the Primary School, the reception area, and the school canteen are to be demolished, the pipes are to be repaired, a part at the back of the auditorium must be consolidated, and also the bathrooms.
