{"id":156391,"date":"2026-04-27T17:16:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T15:16:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/infosphere\/i-santi-patroni-della-gmg-di-seoul-2027\/"},"modified":"2026-04-28T09:29:04","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T07:29:04","slug":"the-patron-saints-of-wyd-seoul-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cgfmanet.org\/en\/infosphere\/the-patron-saints-of-wyd-seoul-2027\/","title":{"rendered":"The Patron Saints of WYD Seoul 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Rome (Italy).<\/strong> <strong>The Local Organizing Committee for World Youth Day 2027 in Seoul, Korea, has announced with a press release the names of the five Patron Saints chosen to accompany the event:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Saint John Paul II<\/strong> (1920\u20132005), the Pontiff who instituted World Youth Day in 1985;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saint Andrea Kim Taegon<\/strong> (1821\u20131846) &#8230;and companions, the first Catholic priest in Korea who gave his life for the faith as a martyr;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saint Frances Saverio Cabrini<\/strong> (1850\u20131917), missionary and patron of migrants;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saint Josephine Bakhita<\/strong> (1869\u20131947), a Sudanese religious Sister of the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity who, as a child, was a victim of human trafficking and transformed her pain into love;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saint \u00a0Carlo Acutis<\/strong> (1991\u20132006), the \u201cmillennial saint\u201d who lived out his faith in everyday life, making his passion for computers a field for digital evangelization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The selection of these patrons took place at the conclusion of a process of discernment that began at the end of 2024 with a national survey among young people, youth ministry workers, and formation leaders. Subsequently, a group of young people drawing inspiration from the themes of the event (truth, love, and peace) prepared a prayer and identified a representative symbol for each Saint. These can be found, along with a brief profile, on the official website <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/wydseoul.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.wydseoul.org<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, available in six languages.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThese Patron Saints span continents and generations, and each of them offers a concrete path for living out the faith amidst the realities that young people face today,\u201d stated Monsignor Peter Soon-Taick Chung, Archbishop of Seoul and President of the Organizing Committee.
