Rome (Italy).<\/strong> March 8, 2026, International Women’s Day, marks the anniversary of the birth into heaven of the\u00a0The Servant of God Mother Rosetta Marchese<\/a><\/strong><\/span> (1922-1984), Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and sixth successor of Saint Mary Domenica Mazzarello.<\/p>\n

In the three-year preparation for the 150\u00b0 anniversary of the First Missionary Departure<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and in harmony with the theme of the XXV General Chapter, “Blessed are you<\/em>…” With the prophetic power of her charism, missionaries of communion together with young people<\/em>, Mother Rosetta is an example of love for the Eucharist and self-sacrifice, in the total offering of herself for the Institute. She lives her missionary spirit as an educational criterion, a formative orientation, and a concrete choice: to educate young people to have a heart open to the ends of the earth and sensitive to the suffering of humanity.<\/p>\n

While still young, Sister Rosetta applied to leave as a missionary. Her request was granted, but circumstances surrounding the Second World War prevented it from being realized. That failed departure didn’t extinguish the fire; it transformed it.<\/p>\n

In 1947, she was sent to “Mother Mazzarello” mission house in Turin’s San Paolo district. She felt immersed in a climate of universal openness and said to Sister Olga Ferrero, who had transferred with her to Turin, “What have we done, Sister Olga, to deserve the grace of joining the Central Province, where we have so much spiritual support and where horizons are so open to the world? Here one senses all the grandeur and beauty of the Institute.”<\/p>\n

Her attentive gaze on the poor, the suffering, and the least fortunate was combined with a determination to open up to young people the horizon of universal charity. First in Caltagirone (Catania), and then in Rome, via Dalmazia, during the years of the Second Vatican Council, this passion took concrete form.<\/p>\n

In the fervent climate of the Second Vatican Council, inaugurated on 11 October 1962, Rome was a crossroads of the universal Church. Mother Rosetta seized that event as a providential opportunity. On 21 October, she invited Bishop Carlo Perez, Salesian Bishop of Patagonia, to the house to raise awareness among young people and the Sisters about missionary life.<\/p>\n

During the Missionary October, the community welcomed Bishop Pietro Carretto, bishop of Thailand, who was deeply moved by the students’ initiative; the grain offered and transformed into flour for the hosts destined for the Council Fathers, a concrete sign of participation and love for the Church. The community also donated six complete sets for the celebration of Mass, destined for the poorest Churches.<\/p>\n

On 19 October was the turn of the Rector Major, Father Renato Ziggiotti, who shared his experience of the Council’s work with the young people. Thanking them for the fifty hosts they received as a gift, the fruit of Mother Rosetta’s educational creativity, he recalled that the Council represents a powerful call to holiness for the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.<\/p>\n

From 8 to 15 November, the house lives the “Week for the Church of Silence,” an intense week of prayer and solidarity. Pastors from persecuted lands will be present: the Archbishop of Poznan, Antonio Baraniak; Bishop Joseph Pavlisi\u0107 from Yugoslavia; Cardinal Primate of Poland Stefan Wyszy\u0144ski, who will send a parchment with a photograph of the Polish episcopate; and finally, Bishop Arduino, a Salesian bishop expelled from Communist China.<\/p>\n

Mother Rosetta involves the entire school in an initiative that sparks enthusiasm and participation. The students, divided into groups, offer sacrifices, prayers, and prolonged moments of silence for one of the persecuted nations. Each day is marked by a concrete commitment: example, prayer, gratitude, sacrifice, charity, missionary zeal, unity, and reflection. It is a simple yet profound way to educate about the universal heart of the Church.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Sisters of the Austrian Province, she exhorts them to experience Eucharistic communion not as a selfish, one-on-one encounter with God as an exclusive guest, but as an encounter in the divine Trinity with the whole Christ, who calls for infinite expansion. “Into my small heart, with God, enters the entire Church triumphant, purgative, and militant. My heart expands, expands, and becomes capable of receiving within it all of Heaven and the whole world; my Sisters, one by one, those Sisters I must love with the love of Christ; those Sisters with whom I must live the da mihi animas<\/em>, joyfully giving the all that is required by religious consecration.”<\/p>\n

Missionary work, therefore, is a gift received and welcomed, nourished daily at the very source of love. Mother Rosetta, in fact, lives the singular experience of the indwelling Eucharist, continually perceiving the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, which impels her toward new horizons of proclamation and self-giving.<\/p>\n

And more than ever today, only an inexhaustible and invincible love like that of the incarnate Christ, who died and rose again for the salvation of all, deserves to be proclaimed because it is the only one capable of offering hope to humanity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
