Rome (Italy).<\/strong> On 23 December 2025, the General Council of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and the new General Council of the Salesians of Don Bosco, as per tradition during the Christmas period, met in Rome at the General House of the FMA Institute, for a moment of reflection, discussion, and fraternity. The welcome, serenity, and joy of getting to know each other or seeing each other again characterized this moment, much desired by everyone, as Mother Chiara Cazzuola expressed in her greeting to the participants, inviting everyone to a brief presentation.<\/p>\n

Mother then gave the word to the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, who shared a reflection of Fr. Amedeo Cencini – who accompanied the Capitulars in the various phases of discernment – addressed to the new General Councilors in Turin on 29 March, at the end of General Chapter 29.<\/p>\n

Service of Authority, Clarity, and Charismatic Responsibility, Chapter as a Generator of Vision, Charismatic Responsibility, Passion for God and for Young People, Polarities to Integrate, Ecclesial Mission, are the themes proposed by Amedeo Cencini that stimulated a highly participatory sharing among the groups.<\/p>\n

After sharing in the assembly, Mother concluded this first moment by thanking for the beautiful and profound reflection, very in tune with the path of preparation for the FMA General Chapter.<\/p>\n

The Councilors then joined Mary Help of Christians<\/em> Community of the General House in the Chapel for\u00a0 Vespers, presided over by the Rector Major.<\/p>\n

In the Good Night, Fr. Fabio recounted the \u201cvery beautiful and surprising\u201d experience of meeting Pope Leo XIV, in the audience granted to the SDB Council on 19 December, at the end of the winter plenum.<\/p>\n

It was a family meeting, introduced by the Pope recalling the charismatic identity and war contexts in which many Brothers and Sisters find themselves living. He finally surprised the participants by asking them to ask him questions, to which he responded like a pastor. \u201cWe heard the paternity of Peter’s successor. It is certainly the beauty of a Charism that puts itself at the service of the Holy Father and, at the same time, the beauty of his paternity, which belongs to us as the Salesian Family,\u201d<\/em> Fr. Fabio highlighted.<\/p>\n

The Rector Major then shared the four points that the Pope gave them. The first point concerns the world of young people<\/strong>, very important as the Salesian Family. \u201cLet us be attentive that young people are searching, a search that allows neither superficiality nor improvisation. Faced with this culture, for us it is an invitation to review our testimony, our identity. Are we truly up to the task of grasping this search? Do we really wish to seize it as a reminder, an invitation from God?\u201d<\/em> It’s a call to look at one’s authenticity, one’s coherence, a religious life capable of communicating something the world needs and that young people are looking for. It is also a call to fellowship with God and relationship with each other.<\/p>\n

A second point is that on Artificial Intelligence<\/strong>. \u201cYou Salesians have a huge responsibility because you are educators. There is a need for a united response from the Church,\u201d<\/em> Pope Leo said. \u201cThe same goes for the FMA Institute, because you are educators,\u201d<\/em> added Fr. Fabio, who shared how their Chapter identified AI as a challenge and made it one of the four guidelines of government. \u201cThis implies for us not only the desire to use technology, but to bring faith and culture into dialogue at a particular time when human history is conditioned by economic models that impose themselves across the board.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

A third point concerns the 150th<\/sup> of the first missionary expedition<\/strong>. The Pope says that the missionary nature of the Church is across the board. In his discourse to the Curia, he spoke of communion and mission, two of the three elements of synodality. \u201cIt is important to grasp this to understand the challenges we face today. We cannot be spectators; we are called to be protagonists. Don Bosco looked at the youth reality within a charismatic vision, with various initiatives at once. For Don Bosco, communication was an ecclesial action: to transmit, to communicate, to contagion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The Rector Major emphasized the importance of knowing the context. \u201cCapturing the beauty of the Salesian Charism in context obliges us to study, to know. It is not enough to love Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, we must grasp the human dynamics, the plot within which the Holy Spirit is working. (\u2026) We are asked this today: a dimension of prophecy, of missionary spirit, where challenges do not suffocate us, but rather rooted in faith and enriched by the Charism, we manage to live as believers, because young people are waiting for us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The fourth and final point<\/strong> the Pope touched on is interreligious dialogue.<\/strong> \u201cReligious life is the drop of prophecy that is capable of changing everyone.\u201d <\/em>The Rector Major recalled the experiences of the two Congregations and many others in which they manage to promote spaces of convergence that overcome \u201cthe filters\u201d that block human fraternity, in which the children have no difficulty playing together, while when they find themselves in other environments differences emerge. He therefore highlighted the capacity of religious life to be \u201ca voice of fraternity, an interreligious dialogue made up of words, gestures of charity, communion, and acceptance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Fr. Fabio ended the Goodnight by inviting prayers for the Pope – as the Congregations are already accustomed to do \u2013 and to continue praying for the Brothers and Sisters \u2013 SDB and FMA \u2013 in conflict situations. \u201cThey are truly \u2018martyrs of education\u2019, who find themselves in situations of difficulty and danger, but have no intention of abandoning young people in the field. <\/em>For them, we offer prayer, human and spiritual closeness.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The dinner was followed by an exchange of good wishes between the two Councils, who said goodbye with a “we will see each other again”<\/em> at the next meeting on 27 December, also at the General House, for the presentation of the Strenna 2026<\/a><\/strong><\/span> by the Rector Major.<\/p>\n
