Barcellona P.G. (Italy). <\/strong>On 29 November 2025, in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, in the province of Messina, Sicily, the street adjacent to the Oratory of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Mary Help of Christians Community, of\u00a0 Mother Maddalena Morano<\/em> Province (ISI), was named after Blessed Maddalena Caterina Morano<\/a><\/span>, <\/strong>as a sign of gratitude from the city for a Charism that, yesterday as today, is dedicated to young people.<\/p>\n

The ceremony concluded a celebratory process that began on 6 November\u00a0 2024, in the presence of the Mother General, Sister Chiara Cazzuola, an intense year of initiatives for the 125th<\/sup> anniversary of\u00a0 FMA presence in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was June 1899, when Fr. Michele Rua and Cav. Duci signed the agreement so that the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians could care for the young people of Barcelona, who were in great need of care and human and spiritual growth. On 3 November 1899<\/strong>, the FMAs arrived at the town and were welcomed by the Cav. Duci, president of the Works of the Daughters of Charity, a lay congregation of noble pious women who cared for young people and the nursery school, named after Monsignor Munaf\u00f2.<\/p>\n

Together with them was Sister Maddalena Morano, a Visiting Councilor at the time, who, as was her custom, lived for a period in the community and accompanied the nascent work. They were welcomed at the headquarters on Via Mandanici and that same evening, they cared for two orphaned girls who remained with them until their father rebuilt the family. The day after their arrival, the FMA enrolled 40 children \u2013 both boys and girls \u2013 in the nursery school; on 5 November, 50 girls in the embroidery workshop, while on the 6th<\/sup> the oratory opened, which was very popular with the girls.<\/p>\n

From there, together with the Youth Center Oratory, always present as a work of the House, a massive educational effort has accompanied generations of families: preschool, embroidery and tailoring, vocational school, ministerial courses since 1948, followed by regional courses until 2015, the orphanage, the community housing for minors, and a series of local educational initiatives, which have undoubtedly marked the town’s historical journey.<\/p>\n

On 29 November 2025, with the unveiling and blessing ceremony of the plaque<\/strong> – in the presence of the Provincial, Sister Angela Maria Maccioni, the Vicar forane, Fr. Giuseppe Turrisi, the Mayor of the city, Lawyer Giuseppe Calabr\u00f2, with part of his Council, including the Councilor with responsibility for Social Services and Youth Policies, Dr. Roberto Giuseppe Molino, members of the civil community, presidents of the Associations, and numerous members of the Salesian Family \u2013 the prefectural decree was read with the authorization to name the street, adjacent to the FMA oratory, from Via Manganelli to Via Blessed Maddalena Caterina Morano.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Inspector thanked those present for this and for the many moments of sharing they experienced throughout the Jubilee Year. It was a touching and emotional moment, one of great gratitude, to the civil and religious authorities, to the FMAs who paved the way and laid the foundations of the Salesian Charism in this town, to the many Sisters who lavished faith, passion, service, joy, and attention on the countless generations who passed through the oratory.<\/p>\n

The event, held with goals that serve the community and especially young people, reiterates the importance of creating collaborative networks to address educational needs and emergencies, with concrete services to the city, and of celebrating the goals achieved.<\/p>\n

The institutional moment was followed by the pilgrimage, blessed by persistent rain, to the Minor Basilica of San Sebastiano Martire. There, the Auxiliary Bishop, Monsignor Cesare Di Pietro, presided over the Eucharistic Celebration, concelebrated by all the confreres of the Vicariate, on the first Sunday of Advent, at the end of 125th of FMA presence and Jubilee of the parishes, catechists, and pastoral workers, remembering Mother Morano, appointed patron saint of catechists for the Diocese of Messina, and Santa Lucia del Mela for Lipari.<\/p>\n

It was another intense moment, in which to look back to discover the many bricks of grace placed by so many Sisters and lay people, by so much providence. How many vocations, lay, religious, and presbyteral, how much grace God has allowed to experience, retracing history.<\/p>\n

The year of celebrations for 125th<\/sup> was full of initiatives in which young people increased their sense of charismatic belonging and generous and responsible service, animating the Theatre with engaging theatrical seasons, implementing web radio, Radio Gi\u00f2, born from their creativity, with the aim of spreading beauty and a taste for culture.<\/p>\n

The strengthening of associations, the launch of the formation program for young aspiring cooperators, who, after high school, have had a missionary experience on the African continent; the approach to state schools through programs led by young people, coordinators, and alumni, carried out in almost all secondary schools, reflections on youth issues in collaboration with child and adolescent services, child neuropsychiatry and SERT, for issues related to nutrition and other pathways on the issue of frailty and the ability to dream, were some of the many pathways put in place.<\/p>\n

The 45th<\/sup> anniversary of the PGS Hodeir was also celebrated, with a gathering of former athletes, and the oratory was moved outside the FMA courtyards, animating a peripheral area of the city for two months, as well as other initiatives, such as the Arcoiris project, created to establish an educational pact in the city between institutions and third sector bodies, the Integration Festival, and the City Recognition Festival.<\/p>\n

This jubilee event brought to light a network of institutions, bodies, educators, young people, and pastoral workers who bet on the education of young people and open horizons to fruitful alliances to continue educating together \u201cgood Christians and honest citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n\r\n
