Rome (Italy).<\/strong> On Sunday, 23 November 2025, on the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe, the XL World Youth Day<\/strong> is celebrated in the Dioceses. On 22 November 2020, Pope Francis moved the diocesan celebration of WYD from Palm Sunday to the Solemnity of Christ the King. \u201cDear young people, cry out with your lives that Christ lives, that Christ reigns, that Christ is the Lord! If you remain silent, I assure you that the stones will cry out.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

This local celebration is distinct from the International World Youth Day; a multi-day event celebrated every two or three years in a city around the world. The last WYD was in 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal, with Pope Francis, while in August 2025, young people from all over the world experienced their Jubilee <\/a><\/strong><\/span>at Rome with Pope Leo XIV.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou also bear witness, for you are with me\u201d <\/strong>(Jn 15:27) is the theme of the Message<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for this edition, with which Pope Leo begins a journey that will lead to the next WYD to be held in Seoul in 2027. The Holy Father dwells on two aspects of testimony: \u201cfriendship with Jesus, whom we welcome from God as a gift; and the commitment of each in society, as builders of peace.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He invites young people to go deep into friendship with Jesus that leads them to come out of themselves:<\/p>\n

\u201cReading the Gospels, you will realize that everyone has found in the living relationship with Christ the true meaning of life. Indeed, our deepest questions find no listening, no answer in the endless scrolling on the cell phone, which captures attention while leaving the mind fatigued and the heart empty. They don’t get us far if we keep them closed in on ourselves or in very narrow circles. The realization of our authentic desires always comes through coming out of ourselves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Along the Message resounds the heart of Salesian Youth Spirituality<\/strong>: friendship with Jesus, which is the foundation of Salesian life, a friendship that grows through daily prayer, the sacraments, and joyful service. From this friendship naturally arises the mission. Like Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, one is called to make one’s life a testimony of love, especially among the young and the poor. Finally, by living in a spirit of goodness, justice, and solidarity, one contributes to building peace, creating communities in which each feels welcomed, valued, and loved. In this way, therefore, one lives the Gospel with a Salesian heart, close to Jesus, active in service, and builders of hope and peace.<\/p>\n

The voice of some young people from various Salesian realities<\/strong> who shared their reflections in response to the Holy Father’s invitation for this year’s WYD, a message that resonates on their journey as \u201cpilgrims of hope\u201d and strengthens their commitment to building a world of peace:<\/p>\n

Pilgrims of hope<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Aishwarya Augustina Toppo \u2013 India: <\/strong>Being a pilgrim of hope, for me means walking in life with faith and trust, even when it seems uncertain. It’s choosing to see the light in situations that appear dark and inspiring others to do the same. Every day, I try to experience all of this by showing kindness, patiently facing difficulties, and believing that God has a plan for every step of my journey. As a pilgrim, I may not have all the answers, but I walk with hope, knowing that I am guided by the love of God.<\/p>\n

Juani Salgueiro \u2013 Paraguay: <\/strong>For me, being a pilgrim of hope means being a living testimony to God’s love, not through extraordinary situations, but in the routine of everyday life. Make my relationship with Him not just intimate and personal, but reflected in my actions, relationships, and thoughts. How could I live afflicted, bearing a grudge or believing that life is meaningless, if I know a merciful God who loves me, supports me, and tries to guide me toward true happiness? Being a pilgrim means sharing with my brothers and sisters, with the grace of living in community this love of God, which does not imply the absence of difficulties, but which is a path in which faith supports us in difficult times and hope conquers doubt.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Ant\u00f4nio Lemos Martins – Brazil:<\/em><\/strong> For us, it is following the Gospel of Christ. But how to put this into practice in the daily frenzy? It is increasingly necessary to have a careful look towards others: bringing a message of forgiveness and love can make a difference, thus following the invitation to proclaim the Gospel and give hope. Every new day is a new opportunity to do good and spread the Word through actions, because words convince, but example draws.<\/p>\n

Friends of Jesus<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Delia Rodriguez \u2013 Panama: <\/strong>I can deepen my friendship with Jesus through daily prayer, in my conversation with Him as a friend, entrusting both my sufferings and my joys every day. Also, practicing kindness, patience, and listening to others. In this way, I can be a person of light and hope among those who need me.<\/p>\n

Aishwarya Augustina Toppo \u2013 India: <\/strong>To deepen my friendship with Jesus, I try to dedicate time to him in prayer, silence, and reflection. I speak to him as a close friend, sharing my worries, joys, and dreams. Reading the Gospels helps me understand His heart, while gestures of service remind me to recognize Him in others. The more I experience His presence in daily life, the more I can reflect His love and hope towards those around me, through compassion, forgiveness and simple gestures of goodness.<\/p>\n

Giuliane Restini Vecchi Marques – Brazil:<\/strong> There are many ways to do this, but I’ve learned concretely over the past few years that you can’t truly love what you don’t know. So, for me, the first thing is to know Jesus. And the best way to do this is to know the Word, to create a routine of prayerful (and not simply technical) study about Him. From then on, your actions will be a logical consequence of what you have learned, because you cannot help but fall in love when you know Jesus.<\/p>\n

Peace Builders<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Kamilla Hemkemaier Soares – Brazil<\/strong>: I believe I can help build peace and unity by spreading love and understanding wherever I am. Sometimes you don’t need grand gestures, but simple attitudes, like listening to someone who is sad, avoiding judgment, and always trying to do good. When we choose to act from the heart and treat others with respect, peace begins to grow around us. I want to be a person who conveys lightness, who unites and does not divide, and who makes a difference even in the little things.<\/p>\n

Dannielys Hern\u00e1ndez \u2013 Venezuela: <\/strong>My contribution as a young man, living and breathing Salesian charism, is to be a living witness of hope for others. Everything I do focuses on applying Don Bosco’s Preventive System in my daily life, because I know it’s the most concrete way to transform my community. In this often negativity-laden world, I pledge to be an example of joy, forgiveness, and service. My faith is not placed in a corner; it manifests itself when I welcome everyone without judgment, recognizing the value of every young person, adult, and child.<\/p>\n

Being a Christian \u201cin fact\u201d, is one of the foundations for building unity in a community. My faith gives me the sense and motivation to serve. By living it with joy, by talking\u00a0 reasonably, and by being close to others with kindness, I am sowing the seed of peace that Don Bosco taught us. Be a witness for others, so that this example can in turn help someone be one.<\/p>\n

Aishwarya Augustina Toppo \u2013 India: <\/strong>As a young man, I believe that peace begins with how we treat each other. I can help build peace in my community by bridging people, listening, understanding differences, and standing up to negativity or gossip. Whether it’s promoting kindness in my group, supporting those in need, or spreading positivity on social media, every small gesture helps create a greater spirit of unity. When I choose peace in my words and actions, it slowly multiplies in the world around me.<\/p>\n

As animators and companions of young people,<\/strong> the theme of this WYD invites to cultivate a deep and personal relationship with Christ, growing every day as authentic witnesses of a living faith. In this way, young people can be helped to deepen their friendship with Jesus, to express their faith through concrete gestures of love and service, and to firmly uphold truth and justice in building a more peaceful society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
