Vellore (India). <\/strong>On 30 June 2025, International Social Media Day<\/strong> was celebrated with great enthusiasm and various initiatives across the St. Thomas the Apostle<\/em> (INM) Province. Instituted in 2010, the Day highlights the impact and importance of social media in daily life.<\/p>\n

At the provincial level, a poster and hashtag-making competition was organized, drawing vibrant participation from communities and schools alike. Announced a week in advance, the competition centered around the inspiring theme \u201cHashtag for Hope,\u201d<\/strong> allowing participants to showcase their creativity and express their hopes through impactful posters. At Auxilium College in<\/strong> Vellore, Katpadi<\/strong>, the Departments of Communication Media and Psychology collaboratively hosted the International Social Media Day celebrations on 30 June 2025. The event aimed to promote awareness on cyber safety and the responsible use of social media platforms. Two main competitions took place: a reel-making contest themed \u201cDigital Detox\u201d<\/strong> and a poster-making contest titled \u201cScreen Reflections: Who Am I Online?\u201d<\/strong> These activities attracted participants from multiple departments, resulting in a wide array of creative and thought-provoking submissions.<\/p>\n

The day\u2019s events began in the Computer Science Seminar Hall with the poster-making competition.The social media selfie wall, creatively designed and set up near the Media Block, quickly became a popular attraction. Attendees eagerly posed for pictures in front of it, capturing memorable moments and sharing their enthusiasm for the day\u2019s celebrations. \u00a0The posters were exhibited in front of the Media Block, where the judges\u2014Sr. Irine Johnson Towle, Asst Professor of Zoology department \u00a0and Ms. Anila, drawing teacher from Auxilium School Judged the poster making competition. Following the competition, attendees gathered in the Media Block Conference Hall for the formal inaugural session. Principal, Dr. Sr. Jayaceli Ambrose Arokiya, delivered an insightful inaugural address highlighting two words connected with Social Media – Dopamine and Detox<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sr. Celine Thimena, Head of the Department of Communication Media, provided an introductory note on the importance of Social Media Day, how it improves the network and supports community building. She expressed her gratitude to the judges and extended special thanks to Dr. James Ranjith, assistant professor from the Department of Psychology, for accepting to \u00a0enlighten the students with his session on Cyber Wellness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\r\n
