Rome (Italy).<\/strong> From 18 to 26 February 2025 in Rome, at the Generalate of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, a Formation Course for New Provincials from seven Provinces of the world was held – Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, two Colombian Provinces, and Azerbaijan. The theme was, “Go into the deep and cast the nets – Towards a style of animation and government that is generative and synodal”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The days were animated by the Mother General, Sister Chiara Cazzuola, and the General Councilors, who proposed the contents in a workshop style, and above all, were present to participate and share in the whole experience that proved to be very intense and family-like.<\/p>\n

The biblical icon that guided the work was the account of miraculous catch of fish in the Gospel of Luke (Lk 5:1-11), deepened through the Lectio Divina held by Sister Eliane Petri, FMA, who in this horizon, re-read the priority choices of General Chapter XXIV.<\/p>\n

In the initial encounter, Mother addressed an invitation to the New Provincials:<\/p>\n

“Focus on the essential, and remember that we do not have to worry about everything that is not, because the Lord gives us in abundance when we need it and when there is a real need, as it had already happened for the multiplication of bread and fish. But we must have a heart that works to be aware that God cares for us in detail, and precisely because of this, we can stop living perennially worried.<\/em><\/p>\n

We are here, in the place where God calls us today. We are given a time of grace for an experience of living with Mother, the General Council, with everyone. We are given the opportunity to learn together the art of taking care.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The richness and depth of the contents favored the meeting and sharing lived in freedom, relishing the joy of dialogue, fraternal life, sharing experiences and reflections. The moments, even informal ones, personal conversations with Mother and the Councilors, the comparison and shared experience with the collaborators of the various animation Sectors of the Institute and also with the Visiting Councilors were a valuable help to start again with new enthusiasm, letting oneself be guided by the Holy Spirit on the paths that He Himself will continue to indicate.<\/p>\n

One of the participants expressed herself thus, <\/em>“There was a strength and quality in this meeting that did not only reside in the well-prepared content, but especially in the climate we created together – Mother, the Councilors present and we New Provincials. It was done with such spontaneity and joy that I was almost amazed that this was possible despite the distant contexts from which we come.”<\/em><\/p>\n

A strong moment was also the encounter with Mother Emerita Sister Yvonne Reungoat, about the experience of the Synod:<\/em><\/p>\n

“How does the Synod touch the Provincials?\u00a0 First of all, each one must feel the responsibility to know and study, to assimilate the contents of the final document of the Synod. This is the responsibility of our animation. It is a providence that we can use for visits, for the Good Nights… to enter personally into the journey of conversion to which the Church invites us, to be renewed by the Holy Spirit, to change our way of life, to animate the Council, all in a synodal manner.<\/em><\/p>\n

Important is the formation of the animators, formators, and lay people who collaborate with us. The Provincial cannot do everything; she gives the orientation. The tasks\/roles remain, but they are lived ‘in’ and ‘for’ service. To have the face of subsidiarity, each one must accept the responsibility that she has, which has been given to her (ours is clear from the Constitutions). Assume this mentality of subsidiarity and have a clear sense. Even the Animators cannot do everything (e.g. Economer, Director of the work), this is not synodality! And the same goes for the Provincial.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sunday 23 February – <\/strong>the New Provincials, with Mother and some General Councilors, lived the intense experience of the Jubilee pilgrimage through the Holy Door of Saint Peter\u2019s Basilica, united in prayer for the health of Pope Francis and for the Sisters and Educating Communities entrusted to them.<\/p>\n

Some resonances from the participants:<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cReturning to the house of Mother, spending a few days in the Generalate, where the Institute has a plural face, was for me a rich and beautiful experience. I thank God for the encounter with Mother who enlightened us with her wise words and the orientations of the Council Sisters, a true itinerary for us who take on the mission to animate and govern a Province in this time of great challenges and hope. It was lovely to be able to share life with the New-Provincials. I consider it a very special grace to have participated in the pilgrimage of Hope as people of God and crossed the door of mercy in St Peter\u2019s Basilica. Everything is a gift; everything is grace. Inside me there remains a strong feeling of gratitude for what we have received and carry in our hearts. Thank you!\u201d <\/em>(Sister Maria Am\u00e9rico Rolim, BRE Province, Brazil)<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me it was a strong experience of the Institute, of communion with Mother Chiara and her Council, and of gratitude for the great solicitude for our formation. It was an experience of the Holy Spirit because the themes were very appropriate, deep, and very clear for this mission that the Lord has entrusted to us. Mary Help of Christians is always our Teacher and Guide.” <\/em>(Sister Marisol del Rosario Gonz\u00e1lez Araya, Chile)<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is very beautiful to have the opportunity to have a space with all the General Government. I feel that General Councilors are interested to know how each of us is, how we feel in our service. I appreciated their attentive and empathetic listening, simplicity, and closeness. And I especially appreciated the opportunity that they gave us to speak and participate, taking into account our realities.\u201d <\/em>(Sister Lupe Judith Erazo Arace, Ecuador)<\/p>\n

“‘The Lord was great with us and we rejoiced” (Psalm 125). In the headquarters of the Institute, in the Generalate, we lived a great adventure in preparation for the service of province animation, which helped me to deepen an immense sea, full of life, spirituality, charism, love, and dedication. Mother Chiara and each of the Councilors of the Sectors made us taste and value all the wealth that is woven in the world, an experience that projects me beyond my personal interests and opens me to new horizons, to new knowledge in the accompaniment of my dear Sisters and of the educative-pastoral communities.” <\/em>(Sister Ang\u00e9lica Medina Ruiz, Province O.L. of the Rosary of Chiquinquir\u00e1 CBC, Colombia)<\/em><\/p>\n

“I was very impressed by the welcome, by the sisterhood, by the style of relationship between Mother and the Sisters of the General Council, by their willingness to listen and to give concrete help or advice. This has given me new courage and the conviction that synodality is the way of the Institute and it is also possible in my provincial context.” <\/em>(Sister Jana Kurkinov\u00e1, Slovakia-Azerbaijan)<\/em><\/p>\n

“We carry this treasure in jars of clay.” This is how I feel from the moment I received the obedience for this service. But this time really was for me a time of grace, in which God made Himself near through the welcome, the witness, the closeness, fraternity, sisterliness, and simplicity of Mother, of each Councilor, and the Sisters who together with me start this Service of Animation and Government, through whom I felt supported and accompanied. This course was also a true laboratory of communion, which will help me to bring into my Province the freshness of the charism, a clearer vision of my tasks, to carry forward, together with my Sisters and the Educating Communities, the paths and processes we have begun. Thank you all for this beautiful time of formation that I carry in my heart.\u201d <\/em>(Sister Mar\u00eda Gabriela Vivero, Bolivia)<\/em><\/p>\n

In the concluding evening, Mother Chiara gave each one a symbolic light with a mandate: <\/em>“Receive the light of Christ. You, Provincials, are entrusted with this sign. Take care that your communities, enlightened by Christ, always live in joy, persevering in faith, hope, and love to bring to all the Gospel of Christ in the style of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello.”<\/em><\/p>\n

For their part, the New Provincials expressed gratitude for the experience and depart encouraged to walk with confidence and joy in the service entrusted to them, aware that the challenge is to continue casting the nets as did the first Sisters, redefining the charism with the passion of its origins, to respond to current challenges and bring the good news of the Gospel where they were sent.<\/p>\n
