Calamba City (<\/strong>Philippines<\/strong>). <\/strong>From 9 to 13 February 2025, at the Mornese Spirituality Center<\/em>, in Pansol, Calamba City, Laguna, the Triennial Verifica of the CIAO Interprovincial Conference took place, with the participation of 60 persons among Provincials, FMA delegates, lay and young representatives of the Provinces of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Philippines – Papua New Guinea; Hong Kong – Macao – Taiwan; Cambodia – Myanmar; Vietnam – Laos; South Korea – Mongolia; Japan; Thailand; East Timor – Indonesia.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by the Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, and some General Councilors: Sister Mar\u00eda del Rosario Garc\u00eda Ribas, Sister Nilza F\u00e1tima de Moraes, Sister Ruth del Pilar Mora, Sister Runita Galve Borja, Sister Paola Battagliola, Sister Lidia Strzelczyk, and Sister Maria Assunta Sumiko Inoue, CIAO referent.<\/p>\n

The objectives of the Verifica were: to assess how the post-Chapter journey is being implemented and to offer indications for the theme of GC XXV. As Mother Chiara pointed out in her letter to the Provincials, the meeting has a synodal and experiential style, and takes place in an atmosphere of listening and discernment, in the light of the Word of God and the new appeals of history.<\/p>\n

The different Provinces alternated in the conduct of each day, animating the liturgy and evening recreation.<\/p>\n

The event opened on 9 February<\/strong> with the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Msgr. Francesco Panfilo, Salesian of Don Bosco, Bishop emeritus of Rabaul, Papua New Guinea. Subsequently, after a creative presentation of the participants by origin and the invocation to the Holy Spirit, the Provincial of St. Mary D. Mazzarello<\/em> Province (FIL), Sister Teresita Padron, welcomed everyone, while Sister Gertrudes Ditching, Provincial of Mary Our Help<\/em> Province (CMY) and CIAO President, presented the program of the days.<\/p>\n

In her introductory discourse, Mother Chiara called for openness to the Holy Spirit, a synodal approach, and being signs of God\u2019s love in Asia. She then highlighted recent activities, the importance of hope – the theme of Jubilee 2025 – and the Salesian tradition of hope, inherited from Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello. She concluded with an appeal to fraternity and care for creation, recalling the letter to the Provincials, “The Verifica, guided by the Holy Spirit, constitutes an experience of growth in the sense of belonging to the Institute and of the family spirit, a necessary condition for opening the heart to the vast ecclesial and world horizons.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The day continued with group work, to identify a common response on the choice of the processes of transformation and of attitudes that are guiding the post-Chapter journey with regard to the assumption of the three Priority Choices and the Resolution contained in the Acts of GC XXIV.<\/p>\n

At Good Night, Mother brought attention to the long-awaited Canonization of Sister Maria Troncatti, with the related initiatives.<\/p>\n

10 February <\/strong>began with the Lectio Divina led by Sister Maria Ko, on the Multiplication of the loaves and fish. Chosen as an icon of the Verifica was the first part of the passage from the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 14: 13-33). Sister Maria pointed out that the miracle is not only in the multiplication of food, but in the transformation of the attitude of the disciples: from disinterest and desire not to disturb, to taking charge, to take care with the same sentiments of Jesus.<\/p>\n

During the day, Mother gave a conference on “Synodality and educating communities,” emphasizing the importance of living synodal spirituality in the mission of the Church. The Spirit guides the Church in walking together, in unity and harmony. She then focused on a specific aspect of the Charism, the family spirit, which embodies synodality in a Salesian key and is a heritage of the experience of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello. Subsequently, the groups presented in the assembly the work of the previous day for approval by CIAO delegates. In the afternoon, after the group work, the Vicar General, Sister Mar\u00eda del Rosario Garc\u00eda Ribas, shared the guidelines of the Institute for the protection of minors and vulnerable adults, which the Provinces then discussed in the groups. The day ended with the Holy Mass presided by Father Nestor Impelido, SDB.<\/p>\n

On 11 February<\/strong>, in the Lectio Divina on the second part of the biblical passage chosen for the Verifica, Sister Maria Ko deepened the meaning of Jesus’ sentence: “Courage, it is I, do not be afraid”,<\/em> a phrase that is often repeated in the Bible and concerns the relationship of Jesus with the apostles, in particular with Peter. Also on this day, through the intervention of Mother Chiara, the participants reflected on being “called to rekindle the fire of the missionary spirit”, recalling that synodality implies a deep vocational and missionary consciousness.<\/p>\n

They then divided into groups – Sisters, lay collaborators, and young people – to reflect on the second question of Laudato Si’. Sister Runita Borja, at the request of Sister Nilza F\u00e1tima de Moraes, Councilor for Formation, then shared her reflections on formation. In the Good Night, Sister Ruth del Pilar Mora presented the preparations underway for the 150th<\/sup><\/em> anniversary of the Missionary Expedition.<\/p>\n

On 12 February<\/strong> the group participated in a cultural outing organized by the FIL Province. The day began with the Holy Mass presided by Father Nestor Impelido in honor of Mother Mazzarello, and with Mother\u2019s conference on “Integral ecology and spirituality of care” to deepen the Resolution of GC XXIV. The participants then left to discover the rich heritage of Manila with a visit to the Cathedral, the historic Church of Saint Augustine, and the fascinating Ayala Museum.<\/p>\n

The concluding day <\/strong>began with a sharing on the Lectio Divina of previous days divided by Provinces. After Mother Chiara\u2019s conference on discernment, the participants summarized the theme proposed for the next General Chapter. The rest of the day was devoted to defining all the proposals.<\/p>\n

In her final words, Mother then thanked all the participants, especially the Provincials and the Team that served at the retreat house for the duration of the Verifica, acknowledging that the Verifica was well prepared at the Provincial level and that, despite the diversity, each Province has shown a great sense of belonging to the Institute. What struck Mother and the Councilors was the strongly tangible Salesian spirit, also among the young people and the lay people.<\/p>\n

The Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated by Msgr. Francesco Panfilo followed by a brief but significant moment of thanksgiving with a lovely presentation from the aspirants, postulants, and novices of CIAO.<\/p>\n

The Verifica was for everyone – FMA and lay representatives of the various communities of the CIAO conference – an important moment to assess together progress, challenges, and future directions in the mission.<\/p>\n
