Rome (Italy).<\/strong> On May 29, 2024 in Rome, at the Generalate, the Course of Ongoing Missionary Formation ad gentes<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, organized by the Missions Sector of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians on the theme, “With Mary to be a ‘presence’ that generates life” (Acts GC XXIV), ended.<\/p>\n

Having arrived in Rome on 6 May, the 14 participants from all over the world were able to meet Mother General, Sister Chiara Cazzuola, the General Councilors and collaborators from all over the world, visit the Charism Exhibit and the Marian Exhibit, live the grace of the Spiritual Exercises in Mornese\u00a0 with the Feast of Mother Mazzarello, stay in charismatic places in Nizza Monferrato, Colle Don Bosco, Chieri, and celebrate the Feast of Mary Help of Christians in Turin, together with the group of new missionaries who are about to leave for their destinations and some missionaries ad gentes in Italy, accompanied by the General Councilor for Missions, Sister Ruth del Pilar Mora and collaborators of the Sector.<\/p>\n

Reawakening the original freshness of missionary vocation fruitfulness and living the charismatic pause “at the origins” to revive the missionary passion of da mihi animas cetera tolle<\/em>, were in fact the objectives always kept present and lived during the course.<\/p>\n

On the evening of 29 May, Mother, in her words of greeting, took up several points from Mother Mazzarello\u2019s Letters: the missionary vocation as a gift and responsibility, courage – “When is courage? When you trust”,<\/em> – joy, “a sign of a heart that loves the Lord very much”,<\/em> humility, as a criterion for vocational discernment – “True obedience is the fruit of humility”,<\/em> recalled Mother – and others, listened to with deep attention by the missionaries and the New Missionary group.<\/p>\n

During Vespers, to which the General Councilors were also present, Mother Chiara, together with Sister Ruth del Pilar Mora, gave the missionary crucifix to four sisters who, although in mission for many years, had not had the opportunity to receive it: Sister Imelda Barattino, Piedmontese, missionary for 49 years in Thailand; Sister Amalia Palacio, Colombian, missionary for 52 years in Chile; Sister Mary Paul, Indian of Madras, missionary for 17 years in Sri Lanka; and Sister Mercedes Jimenez, Ecuador, who has been a missionary in Cuba for three years. The evening then continued with a time of fraternity with Mother and Counselors.<\/p>\n

At the end of the course, during the time dedicated to evaluating what was proposed, the question, “Which aspects of the course were most useful or valuable?”<\/strong> some sisters replied:<\/p>\n

“I would like to say that all the aspects have been very useful and precious, but in particular the theme of the Spiritual Exercises, including the witness of the life of the preacher, Fr. Pietro Mellano; the prolonged stay in the places of Mother Mazzarello; the guided tour of the places of Don Bosco ai Becchi, Chieri, and Turin; the possibility of prolonged prayer in the Basilica”.<\/em><\/p>\n

“First of all, the encounters with the different Sectors helped me to better understand the mission of each area and to value the work that the Sisters carry out for the Institute. The second, the visits to the charismatic places of the Institute helped me to renew and cultivate the Salesian spirit: love for the Eucharist and for Mary Help of Christians, the apostolic zeal of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, the da mihi animas cetera tolle. And as a third, the time of sharing on our mission places in different parts of the world has enriched each of us”.<\/em><\/p>\n

“The whole journey was very important, but the aspects that seemed most useful to me are: the Spiritual Exercises; the visit to the places of Don Bosco, and the meeting with Mother Mazzarello in Mornese, in Nizza with the charismatic richness that Sister Piera Cavagli\u00e0 and Sister Paola Cuccioli transmitted to us; the time for reflection in the Basilica and participation in the various celebrations; the time of sharing with the new missionaries and among ourselves. Moreover, the environment of fraternity and joy; the welcome in every FMA community that made us feel at home”.<\/em><\/p>\n

“All aspects such as: the words heard, the knowledge of the different Sectors, the beautiful talks of Mother General, visits to different churches, the places of the origins of our Founders, the spiritual exercises “With Saint Paul towards Jerusalem”; the encounter with so many sisters and spiritual animation through animated prayer and Eucharistic Celebrations; the particular Feasts of Saint Mary Mazzarello and Mary Help of Christians; sharing with elderly sisters, missionaries for many years, and their personal and community experiences; the constant reference to the program, have been positive and appreciated.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Gratitude also goes to these Sisters for their witness of faith, which helps to believe that a better world is possible, <\/strong><\/em>thanks to the tireless dedication woven into the hidden plots of a daily life in which, with presence and being missionary among the people, one can involve those around you “so that everyone has life and life in abundance”. From their missionary stories, it was possible to grasp the tireless and passionate work so that people, young people, the poor can benefit from fundamental rights such as peace, justice, equality, and freedom for all. For the Missions Sector and for those who approached them during this time, it was like making a journey full of humanity and fraternity with together.<\/em><\/p>\n

A sister, whom she met on visits to the places of origin, addressed this greeting which becomes a wish for their return to the mission:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

“Dearest Sisters, this morning, waking up, I immediately thought of you! You have come as the breath of the Holy Spirit! You have been missionaries for years, far and near. You have moved me deeply. I pray for the world, but you with your hands, with your eyes, with your feet touch humanity, heal its wounds; your hearts have the rhythm of different peoples, sisters and mothers of new generations. You touch poverty. You risk persecution; you save lives from hunger and war. I thank you. I feel I am nothing in front of you, but my nothing becomes prayer. An intercontinental embrace!”.<\/em><\/p>\n
